King Dynasty is expensive, has long queues and average food. My friends and I came to King Dynasty with a booking for 10 people. Despite the fact we had booked, we still waited 40 minutes for a table to be ready for us. This yum cha's trolley aunties all did not speak any English. I'd say you have an easier time here if you spoke some Mandarin or Cantonese. Overall the food was decent, but there was nothing special. I did find the dim sum over steamed so they were quite sticky/fell apart easily. Also the dou fu fa (tofu pudding) had a lot of syrup which was too sweet. The bill ended up being $328 for 10 people and I didn't eat as much as I'd usually eat at yum cha. I'd probably go elsewhere for yum cha as I've definitely had cheaper bills, less waiting times and better varieties in food.
This is must be the busiest yum cha restaurant in the north shore. The queue for a table on the Sunday is up to 1 hour long. The yum cha dishes were limited because of too many customers so it's the same dishes trolley after trolley. We asked for a typical yum cha dish and it took 45 minutes to arrive. The steamed dim sims are not hot and prawn dumplings were rubbery. It was a huge hassle to have yum cha here. weekendnotes.com
Reviewed April 2017 Average Sydney Yum Cha, but I don't think deserving of the negative reviews here based on this visit. It is hard though to give a rating, especially of a yum cha restaurant, based on one or two visits. Consistency is key. Visited peak hour lunchtime on a weekday. About half of the seating was filled. I have not been to this restaurant since they changed hands last year. Service is much better if you can speak Mandarin or Cantonese with the dim sum trolley ladies or waitstaff. None of the dumplings (prawn, spinach) fell apart today. All average but pleasant. Steamed buns were commendable, both the BBQ pork, and the runny custard. Other people at the table had siu mai and pork spare ribs, apparently okay, the latter very garlicky. Deep fried items (wonton, spring roll, taro dumpling, sesame prawn roll) all okay. Prawn cheong fun was quite nice, rice roll had a good texture and held together. Cost around 35pp.
Previously known as the Kam Fook restaurant and now renamed and with new owners.
