General Stanton Inn - Charlestown

Tavern was beautiful, cozy and lovely. The Prime Rib was excellent as well as the salads. Server was terrific. We will be there frequently and look forward to dining in the Narragansett Room. The restoration of General Stanton Inn is breathtaking.

I saw an advertisement for this restaurant and was intrigued ! The pictures look so charming and inviting ! It was my birthday so we made a reservation and did mention this information . When we arrived we were greeted rather coldly mentioned the reservation were seated at a table for 2 in the middle of a long banquet not at all what we we’re expecting . The room was very bright , too bright (as my husband who never ever complains can attest to )loud and cold . It took awhile for waitress to come over but we could see she was busy. She brought us drinks took and took our order. Soon after a party of 2 was seated right next to us at a table for 4 much roomier than ours. Across the restaurant a women in a loud party received a complimentary piece of birthday cake and was sung to. We ordered calamari and It was terrible . Overcooked and unappealing! Our dinner was good but when we ordered another round of drinks I was told they could not give me one because the spare bottle of southern comfort was in a room where there was a private function and they could not be disturbed ! The waitress said she would comp. A different drink for me so I settled on something different ! When we were finished I received no birthday mention or cake and was charged for the second drink ! We were so disappointed and I would have mentioned all this to the host but he was no where to be found ! I told so many people we were going there and will have to tell them all of this series of unfortunate events ! They almost ruined my birthday but Thankfully I enjoyed my husbands company !

Excellent dining experience. There were 9 of us in a room to ourselves, fantastic waitress and the food was delicious. My fish was cooked to perfection (halibut).

I started with the shrimp cocktail. The shrimp were large, the right texture and accompanied with a just right spiced cocktail sauce. For an entree I had the Portuguese cod dish and it was scrumpulichious! It was almost like a cod stew but served on mashed potatoes. It had chorizo and wonderful littlenecks. Real taste treat. My dinner partners had the chicken special and one the short ribs. They were very complimentary. I always enjoy the General Stanton Inn!

We had a wonderful dinner featuring the beef short ribs and Portuguese cod. The beef portion was large and boneless, with a rich flavor that complemented the mashed potatoes and broccoli beautifully. The cod was flavorful, although it could have used a bit more chorizo. Our server, Lauren, was attentive without being intrusive. We would definitely come back for a special occasion since there are more menu items we'd like to explore!
