We had to track her down at the bar to ask for some fresh bread and dipping oil, which she agreed to bring but informed us that it would be an additional charge. Although I didn't mind paying for it, it's usually expected to be complimentary at a decent restaurant. The bread turned out to be the highlight of the meal. When our veal marsala arrived, the sauce was lukewarm and bland, with the veal undercooked. We had to flag down the waitress again to request further cooking. When the veal returned, it was fully cooked but still lacked flavor. Overall, it was the worst Italian meal I've ever had. When presented with the bill, I expressed my dissatisfaction with the food, stating that I would not return. In most restaurants, the manager would have come to apologize or make amends, but this was not the case here. I would recommend saving your money and trying a different restaurant instead.
When searching for a restaurant in the West Ashley area of Charleston, you will come across many places offering barbecue and other Southern specialties. However, my wife and I were pleasantly surprised to discover La Fontana on Route 17, serving delicious Italian cuisine. My wife, who loves gnocchi, was impressed by the quality of the gnocchi at La Fontana, stating it was as good if not better than what she has had at Italian restaurants in our hometown of Connecticut. I ordered the chef's special of Salmon, clams, and mussels on fettuccine and it was fantastic. Despite it being a quiet Wednesday night when we visited, we thoroughly enjoyed our experience and are eager to return next time we are in the area.
We visited this restaurant for the second time and unfortunately, it did not live up to our first experience. The air conditioning was not working properly, making it uncomfortably hot inside. Our meal was average, not fantastic but not terrible either. Despite this, they did bring out a dessert with a candle for my husband's birthday, which we appreciated. We hope that the restaurant can fix their AC issues and improve the overall experience for their customers in the future.
The food was very good and the portions quite large. We had veal saltimbocca (also a chicken one), the special sampler with 4 entrees, and the special salmon dish with mussels and clams.
It’s tough to say this but this was by far the worst Italian food ive ever had. The food was poorly seasoned and also the quality was not good at all. $305 tab could’ve easily been cut in half.
