We decided to see if we could get a table. Luckily someone canceled. Best food in Charleston. We had dumplings, black bass and the Sushi Special. Portions are not huge, but only enough. I'm so glad we made it.
This is not a traditional Japanese restaurant and I usually don't like fusion, but the flavors here were really extraordinary! The cook managed to combine authentic flavors in a new way that was surprisingly still familiar. The salmon star had a big Yuzu taste and the milk bread base was perfectly roasted. The Wagyu spits were amazing. The Duck Confit was my favorite. Very crispy skin and very soft meat. I recommend mixing the picked egg into the rice. The Soba noodles were somewhat weaker. The vinegar sauce was good, but the noodles were simply not fresh enough and therefore somewhat muddy. Still good! Overall, amazing place, I definitely recommend!
My wife and I had a date at 167 sushi bar today. A word insane. This is the smaller sister restaurant on the 289 East Bay Street. We have a reservation online (recommended) and sat in the Sushi Bar. This is not a traditional Shushi bar like SHIKI that we love. 167 Sushi is a modern takeover of Japanese sushi with a spin. It's just crazy. We had foie grass with a German red wine, monkfish with an Austrian Sauvignon Blanc. Uni, Mackarel, Oysters etc. But what really distinguishes this place is the staff and service. After working in the hospitality/restaurant industry for years, I really appreciate the conversation and recommendations of the staff. We love this place and will be back. Go, let your friends know.
The food was phenomenal, creative to a peak experience. Miles was one of the Chefs and shared info about he prepared for us was very engaging! Shane was our server and very enthusiastic about both the drink menu and food! I highly recommend, but be sure to reserve early, as it is a smaller venue and highly popular..However, it's worth it!
