Upper Shirley Vineyards - Charles City

This was my first visit, and it was outstanding. The space is spacious, the wine selection is excellent, the staff is very friendly, and the view is lovely. What more could you ask for?

This is a lovely venue located in Virginia. We found the wines to be quite good, and the prices are comparable to other vineyards in the area. The food is of decent quality, although the menu is quite limited, as is typical for a winery. There is ample outdoor space in the back, making it suitable for larger groups. The staff was very helpful and attentive. One thing to keep in mind is that pets are not allowed on the property. While many wineries and breweries are pet-friendly, this particular place does not permit four-legged companions.

I visited this restaurant for the first time today and I can't wait to return! The drive from Richmond along Route 5 is absolutely stunning. There was plenty of easy parking at Upper Shirley, and I noticed many people biking along the main road as well. It's a truly beautiful location, complemented by delightful wine and great food. You can place your order at the counter or through an online menu from wherever you are. Our drinks arrived promptly, but we did have to wait an hour for our food. This wasn't an issue for us, as it was a lovely day and we enjoyed the atmosphere, but it's worth noting that this isn't a place for those in a hurry. The bathroom was clean and the staff was friendly. Keep in mind, they don’t allow pets or outside food and drinks. Overall, I highly recommend this place!

Such a hidden jewel! The shrimps and grits were amazing and very full. The flatbread and shrimp/spragus bisque were lovely!

Classic colonial feel and great fare. Both the truffle fries and oysters Rockefeller were well-prepared. Their gas fireplace was a popular seat on a cold windy day. I can see this venue must be popular during spring and can accommodate large groups. Bth wine tasting bar and tables offer views of the plantation next door.. Wine sampler is exactly that but gives a great description of each varietal as well as an opportunity to give you a lead on which wines you would like to drink by the glass or bottle. Being partial to red wines, our favorite was the petit verdot.
