Le Crouton - Chaponost

Hidden gem in the heart of Chaponost. Quite a small menu but definitely a testimony of the freshness and proof food is homemade. Portions are generous, waiting staff lovely and very funny and if you ask the sommelier for a recommendation you definitely won’t be disappointed. A bit on the pricier side but fear not, it’s worth it! They also have an open terrace at the front but dining inside is possible. Definitely fitted for larger groups, but make sure to book in advance! We drove past for lunchtime and the terrace was full. We booked for dinner and I’m glad we did, there was a sign at the door saying they were fully booked for the evening. No lies detected, we are about to leave and the place is still crowded. Service was quick, efficient and food was fresh and delicious. Would definitely recommend and come back. Little plus: there’s free parking right across the street in the evening!

We are staying at Chaponost as a stop over on the journey home from the south of France and came across this lovely, friendly local restaurant for dinner, recommended by the nearby chambre d’hôte where we stayed. It was very busy on a Thursday evening, so it’s worth booking. Complimentary charcuterie was provided as there was a bit of a wait before things started off, but the good humoured guy who was running things (and spoke some English) kept us happy along with the carafe of rosé. We had carpaccio of beef with a salad to start with, then andouillette in a mustard sauce, and a ceviche of Scottish salmon to follow. Great flavours and accurately prepared. There were four or five other main courses on offer but clearly this was great local home cooking, everything freshly prepared. The dessert was a cherry and apricot clafoutis from a short selection of home made specialities. More rosé, a complimentary calvados with the coffee and we were happy! A lovely evening at a busy restaurant with an obviously enthusiastic local clientele; don’t expect a quick meal, enjoy the whole experience! I’ve posted a picture of the menu. Lovely!

We first visited here in 1999, it was so good my wife kept their business card for all these years. Not surprisingly, this place is still wonderful. The 2 waiters who took care of us, went out of there way to explain ever nuance of their menu. The food; fabulous, the dessert amazing. So glad my wife kept the business card. We now have their new card; will definitely return. Do not hesitate to eat here, you will not regret it. Photo of that night's duck.

Choix très limité dans les menus et en plus le plat du jour n'était plus disponible au moment de commander. Par contre au moment de payer, la salade composée qui a été proposée pour remplacer le plat du jour a été facturée plus cher que le plat du jour : elle a été facturée comme une entrée ET un plat du jour ! Grosse déception car ce n'est pas très correct je trouve sinon ambiance sympathique.

Accueil tres sympa.Le diner etait bon et tres certainement fait maison de l entrée au dessert.La biere brassée non loin du restaurant etait particulierement bonne.
