Jean is amazing! I'm happy we got there before it got busy because we got a good chat in. The ambiance is relaxed, inviting, and comfortable as you feel right at home. I had salad, rib eye (it was flavorful and perfect...my compliments to the Chef), baked potato and it was so delicious! Of course, I had their homemade sweet tea, as any self righteous, Southerner would get. LOL As always, I couldn't finish it all. So brought the rest home. I'll let the pics speak for how amazing the food is (looks virtually) and how popular this place is because I took pics of the parking lot and it's overflow lot. People come because of it's southern hospitality and delicious cuisine! ?
A Chapel Hill classic.... Farmhouse is great. While it might not be considered a high-brow steak-house, it is still most definitly an establishment worthy of regard. Farmhouse is a classic, all-American restaurant. The people, the decor, and the food, make this place a real treat. Try it.
I hadn’t heard of Farm House restaurant before, but my husband suggested last weekend that we give it a shot. Thank goodness for GPS, otherwise I don’t think we would have ever found the place. It’s north of Chapel Hill, a ways off 40. When you see Allen Son you turn in onto Millhouse Rd, then right before you cross the railroad tracks, you turn into a small, 1 lane gravel driveway. The parking lot is more gravel, and the walkway to the restaurant is even more gravel, so don’t wear your fancy shoes. We were a bit confused a bit as to where the entrance was, as it all looked like just a solid wall of wood. But yes, there is a large wooden door that swings outward, with a nice little sign asking you to please close it. Side Salad with Honey Mustard The interior of the restaurant is very dark, no windows at all, and smells very much like an authentic barn or farmhouse. I suppose that smell really never goes away. The interior reminded me a lot of Angus Barn, except it was even more rust
Great steakhouse with a friendly staff been around since 1969. Owned by the same family for generations! This place is a hidden Jem.
Look: they've got essentially one thing on the menu, and it's steak. There's some apps, and they're fine. There's a salad and a potato, and they're fine too. The wine and beer list exist. They won't change your life. You come here for steak. (Which comes on a sizzler plate, so maybe order rarer than you usually do. They do this one thing and they do it exceptionally well, and for the price of a far lesser steakhouse. 12/10, will steak again. (Ps: that's cheese and a chicken liver pate as your complimentary dips.
