Europe - Champéry

Come to Hotel Europe for the pizzas they are delicious. The ravioli starter is also a huge hit. BUT the rest of the food is simple tasteless. It comes with sophisticated descriptions pasta dome and is described with great words, but it is the worst pasta we had in our lives. Tasteless, bland, completely uninteresting. A child could have prepared a better pasta meal ! We chose the 'risotto d 'agrumes ', the spaghetti dome with zucchini and the gambas pasta. We couldn 't eat any of the three. We asked for more sauce, to add some flavour. The waiter gave us extra sauce, but it was still tasteless. We returned our plates almost full. 28CHF per plate and we barely ate any of it... The service had up until this point been perfect super friendly and welcoming. As soon as we fed back that the food was not good, the waiter took it personally and started avoiding our table and becoming unpleasant. They took one of the pasta dishes off our bill as a small commercial gesture, but it was too late. Too little too late. For something as bad as we had, they really should have made an extra effort to make it up to us. Too bad Europe, your pizzas are delicious, your hotel is great, and the breakfast is fantastic, but there is a real problem with your dishes !!

We had dinner here twice in January this year and twice the year before, with kids and also as a couple. It is a nice restaurant with a traditional look and feel (lots of wood). The menu is diverse and has starters such as salads, soup etc. Mains vary from pizzas, hamburgers (but quite gastronomic ones), tartare, vegetarian and fish. They also have very good meat and cheese fondues. Deserts are mainly ice cream related or crème brûlée. They also cater a kids menu consisting of pasta, pizza or nuggets. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. It is highly advised to reserve during the season. I enjoy this place given the perfect fit with the surroundings (the food is fitting the lovely ski area) , the relaxing atmosphere , yet the good quality of the food and its diversity as you are both well off for a pizza as well as more fine dining.

After a long day on the trail we were looking forward to having a good meal and the Hotel Europe did not disappoint. I had the roast chicken which came with a very nice sauce, and well prepared and flavorful vegetables. Really enjoyed it. My daughter had pizza and felt it was one of the better ones she had tasted in our trip so far. By Swiss standards (meaning really expensive from a foreigner point of view) we felt the prices were very good considering the quality of the meal. The staff was friendly and reasonably attentive. The restaurant and bar area is tastefully decorated and attractive definitely a place that you would like to hang out in for awhile.
