Elk Horn Cafe - CHAMA

First there was no indoor food we didn't know until we arrived. ende september was a little cool to have to sit outside on the terrace. then the whole food was served on styrofoam disher and tassen. I don't understand why washing and sterilizing is not preferable to styrofoam that is not recyclable. it is certainly not fun to cut food on a polystyrene plate. eating was simply ok; the huevos lack of taste; and not even a good cup coffee. none of our party of 7 was thrilled with the breakfast.

Great late breakfast. They went out of their way to cook my wife and daughters food using avocado oil my wife brought instead of what they mormally use. Both my wife and daughter have issues with dairy based cooking. We definitely will stop again when we are in the Chama area.

Elkhound Lodge is a great place to stay in Chama. Nice property and clean rooms. We had a medical emergency when we stayed there, and the managers were absolutely fantastic about it! They called 911 for us, and they came and checked on us later. You can’t ask for better hosts!

Obviously lots of others liked it. But we've been to plenty of good restaurants and I've written a lot of restaurant reviews, mostly favorable. I wish I'd read this review before we stopped: Stay away. Eat the stale peanuts in your glove box and drive a few more miles. My hamburger was tasteless and scary, Carol's was simply a gardenburger from a box served without a top bun, the fries were lousy, and any place that doesn't allow use of the bathroom should be shut down is that even legal? Slow service is usual these days, but this service was extra slow. And forgetful. It was a long chore just to pay the bill for stuff we didn't want in the first place.

Taking a long trip and this was a Glorious stop for food. They may not break speed records, but the food is worth the wait.
