A lunch on the way to the loire, certainly a friendly place, but that was moderate to my opinion. I think if they have lunch specialties, it would be good, but I chose the carte and the foods. to my teller the brochette of crevettes were bizarre to say the least. I might expect an salat of something veg, but instead it came with pots of béarnaise sauce, sweet potato, another kartoffel soufflé dishes and some mushrooms, none of which with or complicated the garnel. hubby ordered a steak court that had the same commands and the meat was definitiw not the cut advertised, but a much cheaper cut. all in all very subdued, we paid, left and would not go again, as really the only disappointing meal in our whole week.
A disappointment after the good reviews. there was nothing about the meal, but it wasn't exciting or remarkable. the simple menu (very good value, although at 13.50 €) had only one meat selection and one cocheck. the next menu is €22. the first...courses come completely with salat, which, while healthy, unbalanced it. the salat was in order, but unforged and boring. the most important courses (fish with fish mousse and magret de canard) that sound very good on the side were overboiled and therefore dry. puddings were in order, but not inspiring. there was nothing very special about what to complain, but also little about what to inspire. You can do so much better, especially in france, and in the normandie!
We had lunch in the l’auberge normande en route to Great Britain. it is brilliantly positioned directly at the intersection 18 (alencon nord) of the A28 between le mans rouen. 18 and follow the signs to alencon. it's on the right side. after the second roundabout. While quite normal looking from outside, we found the reception and service excellent, and that would also eat much better than it would expect for the very reasonable menu prices, from €13.50 to €28. we had the 28 € menu 5 courses! the one indifferent starter (the bad choice on our part,) but excellent filet steaks with really beautiful sauce and vegetables, a wonderful cheese plate, and very beautiful desserts.
Rooms a little spartan glad neither of us needed to sleep in the single bed as the mattress sank to the floor! However, the food was the saving grace for this little Auberge off the A28. we arrived just before 9pm just...made it for dinner where a full menu was available to us. We cose the 22 euro menu which offered 3 choices for each of 3 courses plus cheese. Beautifully freshly cooked hot food the carafe of house plonk wasn't bad either. For a stop-over this was absolutely fine. Breakfast basic but croissants bread freshly baked in the morning.
