Not a big red wings fan so the pool of blood on plate wasn't appetizing. Son ordered burger and you could ring out his grease-bun. We won't discuss the way the bathroom looked like.
I went despite the negative reviews on Facebook and the internet I?ve read. So here?s my negative review 1) carelessly forgot my salad. Then didn?t give me dressing. The register lady didn?t even ask what dressing I wanted she didn?t care one bit 2) cold stale fries and the oil was really old you can tell 3) I had to get up in the middle of my meal and refill my drink outside of the restaurant near Starbucks nobody would check on us, the bartender was playing the avoid eyecontact game successfully. 4) service was non existent 5) 45 dollars for two burgers, drinks I have to refill myself and a dry salad. The worst experience. I?m going to Texas Roadhouse tomorrow to make up for this cheat meal. Veryirresponsible to consider this a restaurant. Now I?m reading reviews more recent than mine that?re the same issues. This Hy-Vee is great and they?re lowering themselves with this restaurant. So here?s my second experience. I asked thewaitress for a fork. Her exact words were ?get up and get it yourself over there.? I was tired and stopped by here again by accident. Stupid of me.
Upon entering, I found there was no signage to guide me on how to order or where to go. The layout seemed to be designed for a casual sit-down dining experience, where servers would take your order. I approached the bartender, as there were no servers available, and she was leaning against the bar, engrossed in her phone and avoiding eye contact for nearly 30 seconds. Finally, she looked up to inform me that I needed to order at the same cashier register used for hot and prepared food. Having servers would certainly improve the experience; otherwise, you might as well just go to McDonald's for a fraction of the cost. I returned to the bar to order my beer and waited several minutes for the bartender to come back. I ended up trying the PB&J burger, which was disappointingly small, about the size of my pinky and reminiscent of a McDonald's double cheeseburger, but with a price tag of $14 (before tax) and fries—that felt like a ripoff. I've heard through the grapevine that Hy-Vee might discontinue the Wahlburgers in their stores because the chain isn’t delivering value. The restaurant has a capacity for at least 50 people, yet there were only nine others there when I visited.
Despite reading some terrible reviews, I decided to give Mark Wahlberg's burger a try. The overall service was a bit confusing, but it did provide some amusement. The experience was hindered by the "order at the door" process, which could definitely use some improvement. I have an average-sized mouth, and I managed to finish my burger in just about six bites. I came in hungry but left feeling even hungrier. While everything tasted decent, I suppose, I would rate it 3 out of 5—though it has the potential to be a 4 out of 5 with some changes.
We ordered some sides, but I can’t quite recall if they were extra; everything seems to be à la carte. The ordering process was a bit odd. If you're ordering breakfast, you do it inside, but for Wahlburgers, you have to walk to a register just outside the main store. My wife opted for Jen's chicken sandwich. The place wasn’t particularly busy—there were a few people at the bar at 11 AM (no judgment, please!) and maybe 7 or 8 small parties, plus a group of six. After waiting 30 minutes for our food, I inquired about its status since no one had given us an update during that time. The waitress informed me that there were still five orders ahead of us because they were still serving breakfast, but reassured me that our food would be out shortly. "Shortly" turned into an additional 26 minutes, making our total wait nearly an hour. The food itself wasn’t bad, but as someone who values getting good value for my money, I felt the prices were too high. The burger was pretty good, but my wife thought the chicken in her sandwich was overly chunky and could have been better if it had been pounded down a bit—it tasted alright, though. The onion strings were average, and my basket of tater tots was mushy, to the point of falling apart when dipped in ketchup. Overall, the food was decent, but the wait was unacceptable. I spoke with a manager about the delays; I'm no expert, just a curious customer. He mentioned that their biggest issue is being limited to one grill, which I jokingly referenced with a line from Tommy Boy, but he didn’t seem to get it. My suggestion would be to stop serving breakfast at 11 AM when Wahlburgers opens or to have both sides open simultaneously.
