Refuge Des Sens - Cauterets

I chanced upon this cafe while taking a short walk before dinner as it was opposite my hotel, but the smell of warm chocolate enticed me to wander in for a drink or dessert. Best decision ever. I ordered the hot chocolate with topped Chantilly cream and a scoop of ice cream choice between vanilla, chocolate or coffee) €6) and it was the best hot chocolate I had ever had. The hot chocolate itself is thick and rich definitely from good quality melted chocolate not the powdered stuff) with a subtle bitter finish, and the Chantilly cream added body while the sweetness from the chocolate ice cream I got evened out any bitterness from the hot chocolate. This was truly decadent, but definitely a drink I would re order were I back in Cauterets again.

I have enjoyed the hot chocolate in here for years, every time we go to Cauterets it is on our list of must do's. DELICIOUS x

We went to this tiny place more than once during our weeks stay in Cauterets. There is maybe seating for 12 people, certainly no more but the service and things available are fab. The spiced hot chocolate is amazing and we also bought some really really great, not hugely expensive chocolate boxes for people back home. Lots of different types of chocolate/truffles to choose from. Somewhere not to miss.

What more do I need to say? Tea is fabulous and the chocolate is amazing. Tiny shop with seating for maybe 12 but did not disappoint just what you need after a long day in the hills...

A wonderful little shop and cafe, with the best hot chocolate ever. Went for the chocolate tart too, as we were cold and wet after hiking for two hours in the rain! Had to wait a few minutes for a table, but it was well worth the wait!
