Impressed with the value as we had very hearty portions for everyone. Bring family back here and we will try some of the other great entrees on the menu. Recommended!
Great food in a rustic place. The restaurant has been open for a year and people find it out. It's a few blocks from the main road opposite a church and a school. If you're not careful, you might not know it's here. Very good food and positive, friendly service.
This is a pretty little place in Castroville with many seats in several rooms. There is an outdoor terrace with beautiful foliage and a well if you want to dine outside. The service was great. Some French dishes, some Americans and of course some German dishes. As the name says, this is a Alsatian-style restaurant, so do not expect the German cuisine to be the typical German style dinner you have when you have ever visited Germany. Alsace is an area in France bordering Germany and Switzerland, so you could call this German "Fusion" food. I had the Jagerschnitzelplatte $13.95) with sour wort, carrots and potatoes. The schnitzel was very interesting. The pork stall was thin and baked, as is always jagerschnitzel, but the gravure/ sauce on this was quite different – but very good. Half of it had a white wine sauce on it, while the other half had a burgundy sauce on it. The burgundy sauce had a consistency of a really light jam with a slight touch of fruit on it. I asked about it and they said it had no fruit in it, but it had brown sugar in it to make it taste a little sweeter and not so strong. Both sauces were really good, but after I finished my plate and asked about the sauce, the server explained what they were and that many people usually mix the two together. I have to try that next time. The other Entrée was the Alsatian Sausage Plate $13.95), served with carrots, grilled potatoes and sauerkraut. I wouldn't recommend this court. The sausage had decent taste, but it was very dry and there were only three small compounds under the sauerkraut. They offer various types of German beers and wines and even have mimoses in the afternoon). I wasn't there for brunch, but I noticed a sign that said they were serving brunch at 10:00. To quote a friend of mine, this place is the best place to eat in Castroville. Get out!
Excellent little romantic restaurant! a must if your driving through the 90 motorway, cute tables in an old house, big parts easy to shave and come back and try something new. decent wine list a beer. no liquor tho. The picturesque terrace under large trees offers plenty of shade for a romantic night. The waiting staff is very friendly and fast. better than a café or diner, less busy. !
Delicious food. Friendly staff! Cozy and warm atmosphere.
