Golden Eagle - Castlerea

My friends praised this restaurant as excellent, saying the food is top-notch. Unfortunately, we visited at an inconvenient time, but we are planning to return next week with my friends. I am confident that our experience will be much better next time.

We went as a group, some ordered lamb, some beef, when we were being served the waiter literally put the to his nose to smell which was which. The food was ok, but after being sniffed at close quarters ... One of the group had a salad which she said was terrible. For a place that has a good reputation it disappointed badly.

Whenever we visit Castlerea, we always make sure to stop by Hester's for a meal. This time, we came with a larger group than usual - 9 and then 12 people - and the staff graciously accommodated us both times. The food was as delicious and satisfying as always. Keep up the excellent work!

We were passing through Castlerea yesterday Fathers Day, we rang about 12.15 to see what time they opened and any chance of a walk in at 12.30, they said they almost fully booked but some walk ins. Restaurant opens we go in, queue to be seated, the rudest woman I have ever encountered came over, said name pls, have you booked I said no but believe some walk ins available she didn’t even let me finish speaking hand in my face saying sorry fully booked pls leave… a young waitress said maybe we can squeeze you in the front bar I said that would be great and we left said rude woman with a scowl on her face who lets these people work front of house?! A beautiful dinner for all 5 of us followed and the younger members of staff could not be more helpful or attentive, so nice to kids etc A very reasonably priced meal too we will be back hut avoiding “herself”

This was one of the best meals we had in all of Ireland. We started with the chicken bites. So yummy with the little salad and delicious dipping sauce. Next I had the lasagna. Wow! Meaty, cheesy and it came with mashed potato, Ireland, salad and coleslaw. Don’t forget the big dish of chips, fries in the US. I had sticky toffee pudding and it came with ice cream!! I left with yummy leftovers. Also the service and atmosphere was wonderful. Make a trip to Roscommon and give yourself a treat!! I must admit that the Hester’s are family but they treat every customer like family.
