So, we all got on our phones to see if any restaurant could fit us in. You wouldn't think getting a table on a Tuesday would be a problem, but we are located in smaller resort town that does not have a lot of restaurants, and July is the most popular tourist month. However, we lucked out and were able to book a table at Winslow's, arguably the best restaurant in the Cashiers/Highlands, NC area. The place only has like 9 tables and 4 seats at the small bar. Someone must have cancelled at the last minute. We started out with a couple of well-made cocktails, followed by the famous French onion soup. I had a half order of the Crabmeat Owen, that was plenty large enough, and very good. The others had Trout Winslow and a dinner Caesar salad. The place is family-owned, so the service is excellent. Chef Winslow always comes out to greet diners and ask how the food was. The downside, is that it is pretty expensive. But, the availability of half orders on many of the menu items, makes it a bit more affordable.
The restaurant came highly recommended and we had dinner with a friend who had been there several times. The food was mediocre at best, the service was just normal but the kicker was that they didn’t have the asparagus that we ordered, the onion rings were burnt to a crisp and I cook much better filets at home. To top it off they claimed that they couldn’t take a credit card! The whole experience was very disappointing.
Family owned, owner is top notch chef.Food was tremendous. We had French onion soup, Caesar salad , Winslow’s famous trout, filet (Pittsburgh style), key lime pie ?(owner’s recipe). You can’t find better food anywhere else! The manager (owner’s son) and wait staff are polite and personable.Easily accessible with parking.Recommend having a reservation due to its small size.
Shelly is an awesome waitress! We loved her as much as food! Best Mac and cheese ever!
It's all about personal tastes...fantastic escargot, French onion soup. Some excellent options, but,for me,a bit to rich. Or maybe just what I order.Try it!!It's a long time local favorite. Suggest resv.
