Coffee#1 Pontcanna - Cardiff

I went to the restaurant for lunch with a friend. Unfortunately, there were no Gluten Free options available. The counter was filled with delicious looking sandwiches and soup, but the soup contained Barley. I couldn't find any sweet or savory options that were suitable for me. The only thing I could have eaten was a packet of crisps, but I didn't think that was a suitable lunch choice. In the end, I ended up eating the leftovers from my toddler's meal. It was disappointing.

Coffee#1 offers the best coffee and is dog-friendly, so we were excited for a pleasant experience. Unfortunately, during our visit, a puppy started barking aggressively at our dog, and the server informed us that if our dog continued to bark back rudely, we would have to leave. So, if you plan to visit, make sure your dog is quiet.

Fantastic, friendly, fun staff. Always a warm welcome, a smile great service, they can’t do enough for you. Quality drinks food.

My drink was actually pretty good but my experience was ruined when the guy who took my order asked me if I had a mask to put on. I said ‘no I don’t’ and he said ‘make sure you have one for next time’ then proceeded to take my order… I’m sorry but why are you questioning people who aren’t wearing a mask when all restrictions have been lifted and you don’t have to wear a mask in food and drink places anyway. It’s choice now. I was fuming he even asked so based on this guy I’ve given a low star. Sort it out coffee#1 because if I go there again I’d purposely not wear one now because of that guy.

I don 't often write reviews but felt like I had to this time. I ordered a decaf oat milk latte, but it was practically undrinkable. The first one was far too hot to drink comfortably and they probably burnt the milk so that there was barely any foam. I asked for it to be redone and the member of staff was being quite rude about this. I ended up with a coffee that tasted even worse, it was super bitter this time (as happens with some of the lower quality oat milk) and huge bubbles, instead of the micro-foam you expect with barista coffee. For a place with 'Coffee ' in the name I expected far better. Save your money and go to Kin Ilk down the road or any of the smaller cafés nearby.
