Mowgli's is best enjoyed on Wednesday banquet nights when you can choose from a full menu, or on Sundays for a five-course set meal priced at just £12.95—you can't beat that! Just be prepared for rushed service, as many people flock for these deals. In my opinion, the banquet night offers the best value for an Indian sit-down restaurant around the Crwys Road area. The interior is spacious and bright, though the basic wooden furniture may not be the most comfortable. The restrooms are well-maintained and tidy. Based on my experience, I would definitely return to try dishes like the monkfish or the spiced king prawns. Overall, Mowgli's is a standout among curry houses. However, its location isn’t ideal for a romantic evening, but I would recommend it for larger groups.
This restaurant labels itself as a cuisine-driven establishment, but I wouldn’t quite agree. It doesn’t match the quality of some of the other Indian restaurants in the Cathays area. That said, the food is actually quite good—delicious and reasonably priced. The service, however, could use some improvement; it's acceptable but not impressive. If a restaurant wants to present itself as a fine dining option, the service should reflect that standard. They seem to be aware that their food doesn't quite live up to the lofty claims they make. It's a nice spot for a meal out, but you might not remember it afterwards. When someone mentions Mowgli’s, they'll likely have to specify, "You know, the one on Crwys Road where you went with Steve," before you recall it.
Walked to Mowgli 's from our hotel .. our son was jones 'ing for some Indian and the reviews seemed sound. Should have read about the Wednesday special because indeed, service was rushed. So rushed that when we did as we often do (order appetizers and hold a menu to decide what we want for mains) our server rolled his eyes at us. It was a LOL moment. Appetizers started out right .. samosas were good, the crab cakes a bit spicier than we would have liked, but we took that as a good indication that they liked cooking with spice. Then our dinner arrived. Every dish was way too sweet at first we blamed the coconut rice, but when we tackled dishes separately (tikka masala, etc) we realized the only spice we were tasting was sugar. Additionally, they are super stingy about the amount of meat you get in each pot. So disappointing. Perhaps for small town Indian it 's what people consider excellent, but we don 't share that opinion.
The Indian food at Mowgli 's (named after the loveable Jungle Book character) tastes fresh and full of flavour, isn 't greasy, and is reasonably priced and served up in generous portions. They claim to offer 'Indian cuisine re invented ' and I suppose their menu is quite refreshing. For a medium hot dish, try the tasty South Indian style monkfish (with spices and coconut milk). If you fancy a bit of variety, their taster menus for two or three people offer you the chance to share several different dishes ranging from fairly mild to rather spicy, so is great if you feel like being adventurous but don 't want to put all your eggs in one basket. The restaurant itself is simply designed but spacious; and they even have clean toilets so almost top marks all round, really. My only gripe would be that when we ate there the service wasn 't brilliant fairly friendly, but a bit slow.
