The King Edward - CAPE MAY

This bar y a throwback in time. You have a wide variety of porches and great staff serving it. It also has a great porch to hang around while zipping a beer.

A group of us were staying a block away and decided to do pre dinner drinks on Friday (around happy hour) at the King Edward Bar on our B&B's recommendation. Talk about Night of the Living Dead...this place seriously only caters to the 65+ crowd! Everyone there looked to be refugees from the retirement home we were the youngest patrons there. The bar decor seems to not been updated since 1968...and not in a good way. The bar itself has only medium shelf liquor, poor beer choices, and a very poor wine list. The bartender was totally clueless and did not know how to make a proper cocktail. The bar does not do happy hour, but does give cheese and crackers, which I guess appeals to their particular clientele's age group. Drinks are pricey for what you are getting around $10 for well drinks. Seriously, do yourself a favor and skip this place in favor of Congress Hall.

As soon as we entered the bar and greeted the only other patron and the bartender, we were met with complete silence. The bartender was cutting up fruit on part of the bar, so we asked if we should go ahead and sit at one of the nearby high-top tables instead. The bartender's response? "I don’t care where you sit," said in an equally unwelcoming tone. At that point, we decided to leave. The service was disappointing, King Edward. You can do better.

During our visit to Cape May, we were on the lookout for a great bar to unwind. We found the King Edward nearby our hotel, and it had a cozy, welcoming atmosphere along with excellent drinks.

We started our meal with roasted oysters and a mixed greens salad with strawberries. The portion sizes were just right for appetizers, leaving us excited for the main courses! For our entrees, we couldn't resist the fried chicken sandwich. With two enormous pieces of fried chicken nestled between a sesame seed bun, it could have easily fed two people! We will certainly return for more cocktails and to explore the rest of the menu at the King Edward and Magnolia Room.
