Once seated, we were taken aback by the menu prices—almost $15 for a regular bowl of soup, though I do have to admit it was quite good, as were the $20 bite-sized spring rolls (which were actually just two full-size spring rolls cut in half). Our server seemed affronted that we only spent $50 on those three items without ordering any entrees. Adding to our disappointment, we were each given just one bread roll and a single pat of butter for the entire meal. Our water was only refilled once as well. When it came time to pay, our server didn't even come to collect our payment; instead, it was someone who appeared to be a manager. We weren’t even sure if the server received a tip. We truly value restaurants that commit to making quality food from scratch, but we were disheartened by the misrepresentation of the establishment in a way that seemed designed to attract customers. It felt like there was a clear distinction made between how tourists, like us, were treated compared to local patrons, culminating in a disappointing experience when it came to both pricing and service quality.
My wife and I are big fans of Freda's Cafe. Does anyone know if it will be open throughout October?
I've been dining here for years, and the food has consistently been fantastic. The staff is also exceptional, making it well worth the price! As for vegetarian options, my mother is vegetarian and always finds a dish she enjoys whenever we visit.
Lamb chops were good, would have been 5 stars on food alone but they took 50+ min to come out, also the bisque tasted strange and they do all their receipts by hand. The waiter also packed my food and accidentally threw away some. Everything overall just seems inefficient, from the food prep to getting the check and receipt, which impacted the experience.
I would give Freda's 10 stars! We had an absolutely fabulous dinner! Fresh, delicious and beautifully plated. We lucked out and walked in without a reservation and were able to grab the last available seat of the night. Next time we will make a reservation to be sure we don't miss out! The restaurant is very small but that's the charm! Our waitress was an absolute delight. I had the baked brie appetizer amazing! For dinner we ordered the beef wellington and steak with bacon and it was fabulous! And be sure to save room for dessert!! Oh man, now I am craving Freda's! Highly recommend!
