The Family Soulfood - Canyon

I’ve also noticed that there aren’t many places in Amarillo that serve old-fashioned chicken—with the bone, not chicken-fried chicken—but this spot does, so I definitely need to come back to try that. Plus, the peach cobbler sounded amazing. Honestly, everything on the menu looked great. The only reason I wouldn’t return would be if I had to leave the city, which may happen eventually since I don't actually live here. However, my extended visits and gems like this place are certainly making it hard to say goodbye!

If you enjoy Southern cuisine, you absolutely have to visit this restaurant. It's a family-style establishment where the food takes you back to the comforting meals your grandma would make. Todd, the owner, along with his family, runs this place, and it truly is fantastic. If I could give it 10 stars, I would!

Now, let's talk about the food. My husband ordered the fried catfish, and I opted for the daily baked chicken. While we waited, I appreciated that everything is made fresh, so I didn’t mind the wait. My chicken and rice arrived first, and it was delicious! The seasoning was just right, the sweet potatoes were fresh (definitely not out of a can), and you could really taste the difference. The green beans were wonderful, and the cornbread was perfectly sweet—just how I like it! Next up was the catfish. It came with six generous pieces, alongside perfectly cooked potatoes and gravy. The corn on the cob tasted fresh, and the okra was cooked to perfection. I highly recommend coming here—you won't regret it!

Better hungry! Every dish I had was delicious. The staff is very friendly. Try the Sunday buffet, but you better come to the opening, or you won't get a seat!

This place is heaven. Wonderful food and even better staff! It felt like I was eating at a friends house. We will most definitely be back. (On Sunday!
