The meat coating seemed underseasoned, and it had a taste that suggested it might have been microwaved (though I could be mistaken). My partner had the wild mushrooms as her starter and said they were quite good. For the main course, I chose the beef and ale pie, which I found to be somewhat bland and overly salty. My partner had linguine, which she thought was decent but nothing special. For dessert, we shared the pavlova, and I must say it was a big letdown, earning only a 1 out of 5. The biggest issue is that it didn't resemble a traditional pavlova at all; it was more like a mound of cream with a few pieces of fruit on top. I would typically expect layers of meringue and cream with fruit, so this was quite disappointing. Overall, I probably wouldn't return for the food. Perhaps it was just an off night. On the bright side, I can't fault the staff for being friendly and welcoming.
The restaurant is beautifully decorated. The service was friendly, though a bit relaxed. The food was outstanding—high quality, well-prepared, and perfectly seasoned. Two of us ordered the pork roast; while the portion of meat was moderate, I actually prefer smaller servings, which made it feel well-balanced within the meal. Overall, the portions were generous. The prices were reasonable.
The oldest pub in Canterbury, and possibly the oldest I've ever visited, has a wonderfully dark and cozy atmosphere, complemented by a lovely garden outside. They offer a great selection of local beers. We only stopped in for a drink, so I can't comment on the food. It was quite busy on a Friday night, with many reserved tables, which suggests it's a popular spot. Definitely worth a visit!
Another meal at this friendly pub! We went for a short break to Canterbury following a recent work trip I'd been on... I wanted to share this fantastic venue with my better half. Liam served the drinks and Taylor took care of the rest, thank you guys and thanks too to back of house. Also, it must be said, the loos were spotless, unlike so many venues these days. Our 3 course Sunday Roast meal was amazing, we left the pub stuffed but very satisfied. I really can't wait to visit Parrot in Canterbury again as soon as possible.
Oldest pub in town! Loved the atmosphere they maintained. Food is delicious, best pork belly I’ve ever had
