The Haywain - Canterbury

The trip to The Haywain was totally worthwhile. I called ahead and made a reservation but when I arrived there was plently of space. Do check their webpage as it is not open every day. On their website there was a pretty good variety and on getting there, were some more specials to choose from. Price wise it is excellent, I got 2 courses for £18.00. I had the grilled halloumi (main menu) to start and the lamb burger (on specials) for main. Both were delicious. The lady serving customers was also working behind the bar, so was busy, however was very proficient and welcoming. It got much busier as I was leaving (about 1930 hours on a Wednesday evening). There is a small amount of car park spaces at the front and a bigger car park at the rear. There is a dog roaming about the pub (which I believe you are asked not to feed) but the dog is friendly and can climb into a bar seat!

Just had the most enjoyable Sunday lunch with two friends. Superb quickly served Roast Pork, with a ton of vegetables, followed by a Tiramisu trifle. Fabulous staff and a quick hello with the owner. Would highly recommend.

On a recent visit to the Haywain I chose paella for lunch as I had tried it before and really enjoyed it. Sadly not this time! A very modest dish for £17 of oily rice, a few prawns and pieces of chicken but far too much chorizo which left everything tasting very salty. I counted at least 16 pieces and had to leave some. A few mussels would have been preferable but not one of these in sight. Very disappointing. The Haywain is a friendly pub thanks to its Landlord and staff which is more than can be said for the Landlady!!

My husband and I visited The Haywain last night with our son and his partner. So glad we chose this pub for an evening meal. The place had an open fire and the radiators were on, very welcoming on a bitterly cold night. We had a three course meal and all four of us chose steaks for our mains, all cooked to perfection and very reasonably priced. The staff and proprietors were friendly and the pub has a lovely atmosphere. I have already recommended this place to other family members and friends.
