Springslade Lodge - Cannock Chase

I waited 25 minutes for two sandwiches at this restaurant. I began questioning staff after the table next to us, who had ordered after us, received their order before us. I was informed that the order ticket had fallen on the floor and our order would be ready in a couple of minutes. As a gesture for the long wait, we were given 2 scones. When our order finally arrived, one of the sandwiches had the wrong filling. We decided to leave. Although we have enjoyed dining here in the past, we will not be returning after this experience.

Lovely cafe on Cannock Chase. Garden is great in the spring and summer. If it's cooler there is a small tearoom and there are huts with tables, if you want a mixed experience. Food and drinks are good and are excellent value. Friendly staff.

Staff always so lovely and helpful and welcoming, food lovely, good value and a gorgeous setting. Definitely worth stopping in and having a walk on the chase!

I visited this cafe today after a lovely walk. Unfortunately the experience was not good. Granted it was very busy but over half an hour wait for two hot chocolates with oat milk (lactose intolerance) is unacceptable. There were plenty of staff working but they seemed to be fulfilling each order in sequence whether you had ordered several full meals or just a couple of drinks. Surely a better system would be to have one person solely doing drinks? There were three young girls as well as three adults but it seemed chaotic. There is an outdoor serving hatch where you order then you stand and wait for drinks or are given a buzzer for food. I would have cut my losses and left had I not paid £8.50 for the drinks including 50p extra each for the oat milk. Looking at the menu I had plenty of time whilst standing in the designatex spot the prices seemed steep. When I questioned where my drinks were after a man who had ordered after me got his I was snapped at by the young girl who said something about having to wait for the machine because of oat milk. I know she was under pressure but perhaps an explanation to that effect or a word to say there might be a wait would stop people getting frustrated. To be left hanging for half an hour is not acceptable. I have used this cafe many times but I am afraid the service has gone downhill as the prices have gone up. I will think twice about visiting again.

After our hike in the forest, we stopped for a meal. The portion sizes were impressive! I ordered a toasted sandwich, while my partner had a jacket potato. He has a big appetite, and it really tested him, but he managed to finish it all because it was so delicious. I would definitely recommend this place.
