It's all about the pizza. Thin and crispy crust. Nice walk from the center of town.
.....or it is the second one you come to, depends which direction you find it. We found La Fregate on our week long stay in Cannes in the first week of September 2016. If you are expecting a Michelin star restaurant then search elsewhere. This is a brasserie and a very good one at that. It is situated on the western side of Cannes, a 5 minute stroll from the marina along the coast road and opposite the beach. If 5 minutes is too far for you, stick to the centre of town. This is a delightful find. Plenty of tables inside and out. Being outside the centre of Cannes but still close to the action, passing trade is a lot more difficult to come by so you have to have something special and La Fregate makes up for the distance by preparing what we found to be a good menu choice with perfectly cooked food. Service and attention is superb although it can get busy particularly in the evening resulting in a potential delay in service but, unless you have a plane to catch, sit back, chill and enjoy. A busy restaurant demonstrates that something is good. The food is what one should expect from a brasserie, the prices commensurate and perhaps it could do with an extra member of staff to cater for the busy periods but apart from that, we would not have a problem dining there again.
I use to go to this place almost every day for lunch "plat de jour" while in Cannes. However the restaurant has recently changed the owner/manager, the staff is gone, the chef is gone.... I wanted to give them a chance however after several visits the last yesterday when the skillful waitress killed my phone with falling knife :-)))) I have given up. The food is disaster unless you go for simplest pizza. I had lamb chops yesterday I never had anything disgusting like this. So never again: "Bye-Bye the old good Fregate"
Stopped here during our shore excursion. We had limited time so split a pizza. Probably the best pizza we tried in Europe. The service was average. It was a bit hard to get our bill as the serving staff did not check back at our table often. I thought the prices were average, though we mostly ate at tourist areas on our trip. Their sign says they have WiFi but I couldn't get connected. We thoroughly enjoyed our pizza and drinks so I'd rate it a 3.5/5.
