Bentham street bar 'n' pizza - Canberra

Very welcoming without being OTT. Extensive pizza toppings. Food great and arrived in a timely manner.

Whenever I try a Thai restaurant that is new to me, I order massaman curry (and I recognise the spelling can vary). Massaman is my standard test. Get that right and I'm sold (the best I ever had? In Copenhagen. Unexpected to say the least).Which brings me to pizza - and in this case, Bentham street bar 'n' pizza in Yarralumla, Canberra.I am of a minimalist when it comes to pizza toppings - any more than three and it's getting out of hand. I didn't know Bentham until today (17 May 2017) but I thought I'd give it a go - note, this was takeaway, not eat-in.Minus - most of the pizza toppings are too busy for me. I don't want piri-piri chicken on my pizza.Plus - I went for the margherita topping - simple and classic; which is where my massaman comparison comes in. I've had enough of both to know a good one when I have one.The base was excellent, the topping just right. I enjoyed it greatly.What things that may hold you back are:. some overwrought toppings;. size - the "large" is not very large at all;. price - $20 plus for a moderately sized pizza is a bit over the odds.Overall, it was worth a try - the happy ending was that I enjoyed my pizza. Give it a go yourself and see what you think..

First visit to Canberra for many years and was pleased to find this little gem in Yarralumla. Traditional pizzas and tapas and warm friendly service. The restaurant is cozy and nicely decorated. We had the Jamón platter (with a Fino Sherry!) followed by the Lemongrass & Lime Chicken pizza. Dessert had to be Tiramisu and a Gelato! ;-) A nice selection of wine by the glass or bottle. Coffee was lovely too!! We will be back again next time we visit.

We were attended to quickly when we arrived, and were seated at a nice table outside under the large plane trees. We had no reservation, but it was early in the week as well as early in the evening. They have an extensive list of pizzas as well as specials and other foods. The wine list is reasonable and our waitress had extensive knowledge of the wines and was able to help us choose.I ordered a pizza, which is very much their specialty. The pizzas are quite rich and have lots of topping. For this reason I'd be wary of any with aoli or mayo and ask for that on the side.It was quite quiet, being outside, and was fun to people-watch as we ate.The affogato I had for dessert was OK. I would have preferred to "assemble" it as many places do, rather than it coming in a small glass all done.A very pleasant evening, and great place to go on Canberra's warm evenings.

We had heard about the Bentham street bar “n” pizza from a couple of people over the past 6 months on our drive around Australia so we made sure that when we were in Canberra that we checked it out. The place is small but amazing pizzas come out of there, the chili mussel pizza was superb (I am still raving about it 6 weeks later and I see that others also enjoyed it too) Great place, great service, top notch food, do yourself a favour and check it out. We will definitely be back!
