Waiter was efficient, friendly, and made great suggestions. Had a lovely evening here. Really liked the warm atmosphere and good food, will be back to try more from the menu : the pork belly is a must, the cheesecake was also delicious.
After craving chocolate fondant and finding out that el burro is closed on Sundays, I turned to google to find other places who served the dessert. Happened upon this restaurant and the zomato reviews were pretty good.<br/ <br/ To start we shared the mushroom tart served with a small side salad, this was extremely fresh and had just the right balance of cheese. I could’ve easily eaten five more by myself. Then I had the sirloin and chips pub lunch (R75) which was served with homemade Mc Donald’s type fries lightly basted in a bbq sauce. The “knock off” Tabasco sauce they have fully hits the chilli spot. Zen had the fish and chips pub lunch (R75) which was lightly battered with wonderfully crispy bits.<br/ <br/ To end off I had the fondant, served with orange sorbet. The fondant was an extreme let down, it could’ve done with five more minutes in the oven. The outer shell was hardly cooked and the inside was cold, thick and sludgy, not at all like the warm velvety liquid you expect. The sorbet was a refreshing take, as most fondants I’ve had are served with vanilla ice cream. This added a much needed freshness to the dish and cut through the thick sludge with ease. The white chocolate cheesecake on the other hand was a total win. Served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, the baked cheesecake is smooth and not super sweet. The perfect way to end of a good meal. <br/ <br/ The restaurant itself is a hidden gem, and I always wondered what was at the end of the road near the river club. I will be back for the pocket friendly pub lunch but will definitely opt for the cheesecake next time around.
Great atmosphere when looking for a warm place on a cold winter's evening in Cape Town. There were four of us. 2 of us had starters, the Camembert and the Sardines. Both were delicious. For main courses we ordered a steak, some lamb in pastry, the pork belly and the lamb shank. The latter was my choice. While the shank was extremely tasty, I must admit that I expected a bit more meat on the bone. There was lots of mash which however was a little bit too stiff for my taste. Out waiter was very efficient and friendly. So, in a nutshell: it was a very nice evening.
I loved the atmosphere and the fireplace is perfect for the cold nights. It feels like you are somewhere in the winelands minus the long drive. <br/ <br/ Had a risotto and it was delicious and didn’t miss the meat at all. Service was great and our waiter knew the menu well. The pies are also made to order and you can be guaranteed freshness.<br/ <br/ The only odd thing was that we were asked if we wanted bread. Can’t wait to get back for live music.
Went for my birthday dinner, everyone enjoyed their meals, very sweet waitress, food is good value for your money, and very pretty location. Will definitely go back again
