It's a nice open restaurant and when you sit on the deck it has a beautiful view of the waterfront. The staff are great, friendly and helpful. The food is tasty, German themed so nice big flavours. Potatoe dumplings really delicious. Great variety of beer . I just enjoyed the style and feel of this restaurant.
Cape Town used to have an authentic German brauhaus, Paulaner Brauhaus, at this exact spot some years ago, after it closed there was no equivalent- till now that is. The Kapstadt Brauhaus opened its doors in November 2018 and is fast establishing itself as the place to be for those who fancy themselves as purveyors of German food and good beer. The inside is tastefully decorated while sticking to the theme with stained glass windows and a fair bit of wood trimmings and long beer benches as well as more intimate 4 seater tables. There is seating outside on the balcony where you’ll be treated to a sweeping view over the Waterfront Clocktower precinct. The food has a range of traditional German Brauhaus options and a moderate selection of local and imported beer. The house beer is Kapstadt lager which is brewed locally by CBC exclusively for the Brauhaus. The beer is ice cold and served in chilled beer mugs in volumes ranging from 340ml through to 1L. I chose to order the lamb croquettes and hauswurst platter while my wife went with the chicken schnitzel with cheese sauce, fried potatoes and sticky toffee pudding for desert. The croquettes were perfectly cooked with excellent flavor and a dollop of cheese in the center while the platter included three German sausages on a bed of sauerkraut with pretzel slices. The schnitzel is very lightly crumbed (dusted even) and was also well presented and cooked. To drink I stuck with the delicious house lager (at a very reasonable R28 for 500ml) which only improved with each mug while my wife had a highly rated frozen margarita. The staff were excellent, very interactive, friendly and efficient and more than happy to answer questions and offer advice. They also regularly have live music available which also occasionally includes an oompah band. So if you are looking for a fun night out as a couple or with a large group of friends this is a place I’d certainly recommend. Details are available on both their web site as well as their Facebook page.
Great spacious venue with funky decor love the hanging plant boxes. I had the crumbed chicken schnitzel with chips and black pepper sauce which was a decent portion size and very tasty. The vibe was good and the live music is a great addition. Staff are friendly and neatly dressed. Prices are a bit more than average but overall a good spot.
Give me Bier and Bretzeln in a German Brauhaus and I am there! <br/ <br/ Kapstadt Brauhaus is a delightful new addition to the Waterfront restaurant scene. It’s a spacious and modern Brauhaus style restaurant with German food, lots of different beers on tap, and my personal favourite, the Mass, which is the German word for those massive 1 litre glasses. <br/ <br/ Their service is very friendly, the food was quite tasty and the beers are well-priced (especially considering they are located in the Waterfront . <br/ <br/ Live bands perform there regularly adding to the nice vibe. Occasionally they get a real Oompah band to come and play, which is awesome for that authentic German experience. (I can’t wait to see what they’ll do for Oktoberfest season! <br/ <br/ This is my new favourite hangout in the Waterfront. They have great views, super beer and a lekker vibe. If you like beer, you’ll like Kapstadt Brauhaus.
