I ordered a turkey sandwich and was very pleased by the sandwich on the whole, but especially by the meat which was not deli style, but Thanksgiving style. Also, as I have mentioned before, I am easily won over by avocado when it comes in pure avocado form and not in a paste/spread from a bucket. Then this evening I visited the West Village Market stand at the Saratoga Farmer 's Market and purchased a sourdough roll to go with my salad. It was doughy and delicious. Also, I once had a cornbread muffin made by WVM. MMMM. I know artisan bread is usually good, but this stuff is fantastic. I think the West Village Market can join the monks and their German Shepherds and the nuns and their cheesecake on the Cambridge hot list. I know there 's so much to do in this town, but really try to squeeze this into your next visit. Or conveniently visit their stand at your local farmer 's market.
Inconsistent quality, service and even hours they are open! Also; questionable hygiene practices.... The woman waiting on us was unclean and appeared very ill.
I popped into this sandwich and coffee shop while I was in the area. This place offers breakfast and lunch in a very unique and hometown America setting decorated with table seating, antiques, area rugs, classic framed pictures on the walls, and old books. They have also self serve coffee carafes and a neat bakery case. I got myself a very flaky sweet raspberry turnover $2.75) for the road, which was decent with my iced coffee I already picked up at Stewart's.
Repeatedly I've found that there is some strange (lack of) pricing policy with this outfit. Sometimes even to the point of what looks like price gouging. Generally a loaf of bread was so many dollars but then on a different day the same thing was more. And one day I was told a high price, then a different worker rang it up at the customary lower price. One day I had a lunch that turned out to be a bunch of grilled vegetables and when it came time to pay, the husband and wife owners actually argued about the price in front of me. I was embarrassed and simply held out some cash so they could take what they wanted. Once I sent an out-of-town friend in to pick up an order and they charged an outrageous amount. They didn't know him although he had grown up locally. I don't know... their stuff is good but their odd approach to pricing is too much for me.
