Although the ambiance is a bit bare, the wood fired oven, unique pizza combinations, and exposed brick interior add vitality to the restaurant. I've had the chicken and pepper pizza along with the steak and arugula pizza, and both have struck the perfect balance of crust, sauce, and toppings. Most recently I even tried the bolognese which also felt authentic and satisfying. I'll definitely be back, as it's probably my favorite pizza in Harvard Square!
Had a fonder recollection from the last time I came. Decent pizza. Shared the plain #1 and a fontina potato #5 and both had intriguing flavor but neither were great. Great service.
Amazing pizza in a simple, pleasant atmosphere. Had two half size pizzas grilled chicken and grilled beef and they were both great, focusing on generous amounts of toppings rather than on the dough. The ambiance is characterized by bold, rough textures of concrete and metal, accentuated even more by a picture window view of the old cemetery to the back of the building. Not too loud inside and it worked well for a lunch for two.
We came out to Cambridge, 1 for lunch because they had a Yaymaker Paint Nite scheduled on a certain specific day, and we liked the picture that would be painted. Cambridge, 1 advertises on their website that they do not take reservations. When we got there, I understood why Cambridge, 1 isn't a large space. However, being a rather good sized party, we couldn't risk just walking in and seeing how things went. Fortunately, they'll work with large groups, and it turns out, we ended up being the bulk of the Paint Nite clientele that day. We pre ordered for the group a selection of salads and pizza pies approximately one pie for every two people, and a few salad for some roughage and we ate it all. The grilled chicken, romaine, croutons, balsamic vinaigrette $13 was completely covered with slices of actual chicken breast meat (yes, white). The vine ripe tomato, mozzarella, cucumber, red onion, crouton, balsamic $11 was rough diced, and my personal preference of the two. The pies came out two at a time, piping hot from the oven, cut into 8 squares. The crust was thin, tender for the most part, but more crisp at times. We ended up trying nearly half the menu: 2 italian sausage, ricotta, tomato, roasted onion 13/24 4 wild mushroom, garlic confit, herbed ricotta 16/30 5 potato, fontina, parmigiano, romano, rosemary, garlic 12/22 11 spinach, artichoke hearts, chèvre, slow roasted tomatoes 13/24 12 grilled steak, slow roasted tomatoes, gorgonzola, arugula 14/26 The steak came out first, but was sadly a little tough. My surprise favorite was the sausage, since I tend to favor vegetable/chicken on my pizzas. Next was a tie between the mushroom and the potato. Last place, the steak. Service was pleasant. The casual atmosphere perfect for our needs.
We went to Cambridge as we were starving and looking for something easy to eat and pizza sounded like a good choice. On first impression the place was cute but entirely deserted. No people, no servers, and us wondering if they were even open. Turns out they were open and so they seated the three of us by the window. If you stand up the view is neat as it's of an old cemetery. The food is fairly expensive and we were eating a late lunch, so we ordered one pizza to split. When the food came we were all surprised that it was a big flatbread. No sauce, so cheese. Turns out it was quite good, but not at all what we thought it was. I know we're in Cambridge, but $26 for a flatbread with some steak and arugula? Jeez. 3ish stars for okay service and tasty but misrepresented, expensive food.
