WILD GINGER, a bistro, prepares flavorful Aisian dishes, with a California twist. In many ways Wild Ginger is in the style of the cafes we enjoyed in Taiwan. The eatery is small, family owned and operated. There's an open kitchen, and with a nod to Cambria, a large, umbrella protected patio. Due to the pandemic the restaurant operates as a takeout only service. Debbie and her small stuff are knowledgeable and friendly. They are reflective of the hospitality of her homeland, Belitung, an island on the east coast of Sumatra Indonesia. Down the block, another excellent restaurant, Robin's, is owned by Debbie's sister, Shanny. Wild Ginger's menu is annotated with vegan and gluten free options. Servings are flavorful, large, and quickly presented. A limited selection, of wines and beers, is offered. Warm sake brings comfort to a cool Cambria evening. Let the sake set a minute or two, as it is served quite warm. A selection of delicious, house-made sorbets, and baked goods is displayed. Takeouts are available. Everything is wheelchair accessible including the gender neutral bathroom, which is located outside, at the rear of the patio. Dogs are invited to accompany their owners on the patio. (Dog-friendly patios are common in Cambria. Free parking in a lot a hundred feet to the South. (To the left when facing Wild Ginger. Some street parking is available.
Nice to know that the owner is descendants of belitung island. The food is magical. Very nice and has a find dining feels to it.
The food here is very fresh and full of flavors. We had the Asian chicken salad with peanut dressing...oh how delicious it was. The calamari salad with the light citrus dressing was wonderful...I could taste the different vegetables textures and seasonings. YUMMY. A very nice spin on Cal-asian cuisine!
This review is for those looking for more than just one sentence saying ?it has vegan options?. Wild Ginger has a daily vegan special and well-labeled vegan items on the menu like an eggplant curry. This set it apart of other spots in Cambria that don?t have any vegan items listed. We had the tofu satay to start. I was expecting skewers but it was served on a bed of sautéed spinach and the sauce was delicious. I had the delicata squash special and my companion had the schezaun tofu. My dish was better, with a flavorful curry sauce and nicely roasted squash that made for a substantial meal. Service was friendly and informed. They have a standard sorbet as the only vegan dessert offering, which never really entices me. Lots of outdoor seating and a pet-friendly patio. Definitely give this spot a try.
