This restaurant serves a reduced menu between 2pm and 7pm which is useful to know because many others close. The menu is broader than it at first appears because they have assiete dear fruits dear mer, so if they have the seafood in stock you can have it. Langoustine and mussels were good and bottles of wine reasonably priced, attention to service could be improved !
Went for a family meal here, and the food was pretty good but I wasn't too impressed by the service. Despite the waiters making a big effort at humour, they didn't get the basics right. The table was being cleared and dessert menus thrust in front of us (without the courtesy of asking if we wanted to see them) a good 5 minutes before one of our group had finished eating their first course. And I caught the manager leering at our teenage daughter - not good.
Unlike its higher rated, and more fancy next door neighbor, Cot Mer is best for its simple focus on shell fish, with beers, wine and cidre to match. They have a few grilled meats as well. Its good plain food without a fuss. The staff are a bit gruff, but respond warmly to attempts to speak simple French. We had two great and inexpensive meals here. Moules are a bargain and come with several sauces; a la creme is the way to go; add frites and you have a filling meal. Crab with mayonnaise (a complete Torteau) is another filling choice, packed with roe and lots of meat. We had the Fruits de Mer one night, which is more expensive but packed with every kind of shell fish you could think of.
The sea front location and modern decor of the dining room make this a lovely place to eat. The friendly service adds to that. The food doesn't quite live up to the rest of it but it's perfectly good. A starter to fish soup was full of fishy flavour and tasted good. My tune steak was a bit dry and the sauce could have come from a bottle - it was very sweet. My fellow diners enjoyed their burgers and mussels. The chips were a bit salty for some. Reasonable prices.
