You need to ask for this menu because it is not displayed and it is not in the folder of information in the hotel room. From memory were the 4...selections Vegetable Lasagne; ratatouille; Pasta with Sautéed Vegetables; and Mushroom Risotto with English sauce (we never really found out what this sauce was). Each dish costs €9.50 or less. The Ratatouille could need a supplement with it, which could add another 5 €. I had the vegetables lasagna. It was not the best meal of my life, but it was a good quality, definitely homemade, and what a relief and luxury to have a choice of 4 options, especially thought that it literally nothing fits on the mainstream menu. I guess more people would eat here if they knew. My husband had Scabbard Fish with Passion Fruit Sauce. Note our waiter offered to serve the sauce on the side. We liked the sauce, but it's a good option if you're not sure. It was literally just a big piece of fish so you might want a supplement. Most were 5 €6. Fried potato wedges had large crispy, red peppers mixed and 3 or 4 large pork chips that were easily avoided, but vegetarians might ask that they be served without meat. You should ask if the potatoes were actually cooked with the meat. It is possible that it was added later. Our waiter was lovely, something I doubt I've ever written about others. He spoke excellent English and added value to our meal with his helpful attitude and attention as it wanted. He left us alone what was appreciated. After he asked what we liked, he delivered a good proposal for wine that was right to our preference. He didn't try to annoy. He has only a beautiful abomination and has done a lot to change our opinion of Eira do Serrado as a whole.
The snack bar/café can be done with the visitors of Miradour, but the staff is very fast with orders and serving you can order or sit at the counter and wait for table service. I tried a piece of local chestnut cake with my tea, but I must say it was a bit dry for my pleasure. We sat at a table on the sun terrace, but there is also a back terrace in the shade overlooking the valley. In view of the remote situation, prices were reasonable. I think the snack bar belongs to the neighboring hotel.
After visiting the Nun's Valley we came for lunch at this mountain hotel and restaurant near Miradouro. I was initially disappointed that our guide had chosen a Hotel Resto for our first Funchal meal. But after we saw the extensive meal, the reasonable prices and finally the taste, we were satisfied. I had the seafood soup and Lapas that are like Opihis in Hawaii. Lapas swim in butter and garlic. My wife had the Espada, or black Scabbard fish, with chestnuts. Good value and taste at 27E (resto forget to pay us for seafood soup). We were the only males in the dining room until a Polish tour group arrived.
We stayed there after a walk and back from Curral the Freiras. The food looked pretty expensive, but we had already eaten, so we only had coffee. €8 for two cappuchinos! Be careful! We stay in a 5* hotel that costs only 3.50 and they are much bigger.
