“How long is the wait for a table?” “Right now we’re not seating tables of one, so you’ll just have to wait until a seat becomes available at the bar.” Seriously, Dukes?
Ordered delivery was my first time! I ordered the “corn elote locos” as a side, as well as the “torta milanesa cubano”. My friend ordered a burger (not pictured) with the seasonal burrata. The sandwich was huge and generously stacked, great ingredients you can taste. The elote was also delicious, nice kick to it. Overall a bit pricey but definitely a decent amount of food everything has lasted for more than 2 meals. I definitely would like to come back and try more!
We stayed at Hotel Lombardy and Duke’s Grocery was conveniently across the road. We arrived on a rainy Wednesday night and hit Duke’s about 8pm. The place was hoppin’, but we were seated immediately. The service was quick, friendly and attentive. I had a lovely salmon with a quinoa tabouli and hubby had an excellent Tikka Masala that gave me dinner envy : . A table full of Swiss gentlemen next to us all got burgers that looked amazing. The atmosphere was old brick warehouse worn industrial but warm. Truly can’t say anything bad about it other than I don't drink and they offered no NA beers at all (hence removing one star from my review .
OK, I haven’t been to DC in ages. A friend recommended that my colleagues and I try Dukes Grocery. It was not a mistake. while the restaurant was fully committed for the evening, we were able to find a seat at the bar. The atmosphere is very relaxed, and a place where you do not have to dress up. We did not have reservations and came in about 8 o’clock at night. The bartender was very friendly and helpful. He gave great suggestions and made us feel like we were regulars, even though we came from all over the place. I had the cheeseburger, we split the elote and enjoyed every last bite. Some of the regulars that were there at the bar with us, we’re more than happy to offer their opinions and suggestions as well. It was a very fun night and the next time I am back in DC I will be sure to check out Duke’s, again.
