The Coffee Box Calpe

Cannot believe the reviews posted on Trip Advisor for this café, we arrived expecting great coffee, friendly service and ambience, instead we left somewhat dumbfounded by the experience! We returned 3 times in all, early morning through to noon and each time left deflated. The positives: great location at the lower end of the Gabriel Miro, great selection of sandwiches and cakes (catering for specialist diets gluten/celiac, lactose, etc). Negatives: 1. staff are down right rude! Despite conversing in our best pig-din Spanish, placing our order totally in Spanish (which the staff understood) with beaming smiles, we were treated indifferently. This is not the experience we have seen in other coffee shops. Indeed, we were not alone in this extremely limited interaction. The staff appeared to revel in the domination of the café, limiting their exchange with locals and foreigners alike. As if we were duty-bound to provide them with an income AND be subservient to boot! 2. the reason for choosing this particular café was a Google search to find the best coffee in Calpe. The Coffee Box stood proud at position 3. Advertising great interaction between staff and great coffee too. We left disappointed on both counts. Anyone can pour coffee and frothy milk into a vessel. A barista takes pride in their work. There's a delicate balance between the smoothness of the dairy and the hit of the caffeine. On each of these recent 3 visit ls the café con leche served was mediocre at best. Ironically, 4 months earlier we were served exemplary coffee from the take away part of the business, located on the adjacent side street. I do not believe this business deserves its current N°3 position but that is, of course, subjective. Our own interpretation. Try it yourself. Just be prepared for the lackadaisical approach and sub-standard café con leche. Armed with this information your experience may be suitably tempered to make the visit at least palatable

We were looking for a place to get a deer and it was good. We ordered a waffle, a crep and two coffees. Good service. There is a variety of sweets, coffees, smoothies. We will certainly repeat when we return to the lime.

El mejor café que he probado. Delicioso incluso sin endulzar. ¡Recomendado al 100%!

Very good coffee, cakes looked very good as well. We will be back. Not ideal sitting next to the traffic with all the pollution they give out, so if you have health issues, don’t go here.

Modern coffee shop always very busy in the morning sometimes hard to get a seat. Service was very slow coffee and croissants were ok nothing special
