First of all, the only beer they had was a Labbat's Blue (no craft beers, as in the menu). Very disappointing. No Pickerel either. It took 55 minutes from sitting to get our meals. My son ordered the Salmon with Mango Chutney, to find out they didn't have any chutney left, as indicated in the photo. The tenderloin steak with mushrooms, was ordered medium and came rare. I guess better than well done. There was only one mushroom provided. Not sure what is happening to this restaurant but there seemed to be as many people behind the scenes than were sitting at tables, with only one person serving. Our server was wearing street clothes that were dirty in the front. Our tablecloth was dirty too and the red wine was served in tiny white wine glasses. The rack of lamb cost $43. so that was too much to spend, even though it is their specialty. Unfortunately, we won't be going back. We'd rather spend our $100. elsewhere. There is so much potential here, but I think the management is lacking, despite the five extra people milling about. So many items were not available that I asked if they had tarter sauce before ordering the Fish and Chips. Too bad!
I have had the privilege to dine at the Ram's Head in the past, at the old place that burned years ago to the later rebuilt location in Callander, Ont. It was my mother's 90th bday recently and she was just 2 months out from losing her husband of 67 years when we decided to treat her to a nice casual evening out with family to share some memories and laughs and to enjoy some incredible food and renowned service. I reserved a table and called back the day before to confirm.However...that was not to be. When we arrived the restaurant was locked with a noticeable 'closed' sign in the entrance. No table was ready...no ambience...nothing. The evening went downhill from there. Instead of giving us a menu, they should have informed us what was available to order... and that was little....no service... could not flag the waitress down (imo she was overwhelmed with nothing to offer the guests)... she was too busy apologizing to everyone that what they were ordering was not available... 2 hours later people still waiting for dried up cold food... ADVICE: check out recent reviews... staffing changes,,, inexperience...not a good recipe
Had lunch twice this past week. Both times it was delicious and it surprised me that it was so reasonably priced for the excellent service.
Trying to avoid the construction in the highway through North Bay I made a quick detour through Callandar and find this place. Super friendly waiter (Andrew I think), and super fancy decor for the very reasonably priced menu. Fish and chips was my choice it was good and served quickly. It's nice to find a place where it is obvious the owner cares about service and they take pride in their setting.
We stayed in the area for two weeks and unfortunately, waited until our last night to experience this restaurant. Our server was so bubbly and informative she helped me with my decisions as there were so many of my favorites to choose from! The warm Thai chicken salad was a very generous size and tasted awesome. My husband chose shrimp and scallops appetizers and he loved it.We both enjoyed the lamb dinner. It again was a generous size and cooked to perfection, right down to the potatoes. Both too full for desert, but managed to share a very nice light lemon cake.Restaurant has a nice intimate setting. We were very pleased with our choice to go there, too bad we didn't go sooner.Next year...:-)
