I don’t know what’s the chefs understanding of Japanese ramen, which is Definitely not whole bottle of soy sauce. The taco cha soy again too salty. Worst ramen restaurant I’ve ever been. Music is also too loud. Waiters were the only good thing about this restaurant, but feel sorry for them to work in this place.
I was so excited to try Shiki Menya. I love ramen so much and am always down to try new places and foods. My boyfriend and I finally got the chance this morning and both ordered the Kara Miso Garlic. My second bite in I hated it. I couldn 't pinpoint why, but nothing in my bowl worked well together. I had a third because I was starving but couldn 't force myself to finish it. My bf on the other hand finished his whole bowl and I told him he can have the rest of mine. And two sips into mine he agreed it wasn 't good. He didn 't finish it either. We told the server we didn 't like it, it was way saltier than my bf 's bowl and all she said was next time let us know to add more broth . Our experience was so disappointing when I was so excited to try the supposedly best ramen in Calgary . We left with most of my ramen left in the bowl. Won 't be coming back. I really wanted to make this place my go-to. Too bad
The staff were attentive and the atmosphere was nice. We sat right by the kitchen and watching them prepare each dish was so cool. The ramen is unique and so was the tacos. Delicious!
It was not really great like I was expecting, but an overall good experience. Flavour of the broth was full as advertised. I just wish it came with a bit more serving of noodles and maybe another slice or two of pork considering it’s almost $20 per bowl. But yeah, inflation, or maybe I’m just cheap, whatever. However, I can say that this is one of the best Ramen in Calgary-taste wise. But with regards to value, I guess it depends on who you ask. Btw, they charge $1 for a tbsp of chili oil on the side. I guess if you’re looking for value, and can compromise a bit on taste, maybe try somewhere else. I know a neighboring Ramen house a block away that has a $7.5 ramen lunch special. But if you like a hip, trendy, and of course flavorful ramen, I guess here is worth the try.
Karo Miso Garlic Ramen easily the best ramen in Calgary! Always busy so prepare to wait a little but it is beyond worth it.
