The meal was actually quite good however the service was absolutely horrible. We were rushed through our meal the entire evening. Our waiter was incredibly rude and pushy and kept trying to clear our plates before we were finished. He constantly interrupted us and when he dropped off the bill he literally threw a pen at us and said, "there's your calculator." They turned off the lights before we got out the door! It was 9:15. We arrived at 7:30.
This pains me to write this review. When I first moved to Calgary 20-plus years ago, I always looked forward to meals here. It gave me the first real taste of Italian food in Calgary. Because I now live in a part of the city that makes coming here inconvenient, I hadn't been here in years. When another couple wanted to meet up for a nice dinner, we decided to come here because it was convenient for them. That was a mistake,By no means was our dinner dreadful, but one thing that surprised me was when we ordered the mussels as an appetizer, and the dish was half clams. If I wanted clams and mussels, I would have ordered that, but the menu made no mention of clams would be part of the dish. If they had come out and said that they were short of mussels, we would have possibly understood, but no mention was made of it. I thought I had not properly read the menu, but that wasn't the case. On top of it all, several of the clams didn't open. I can't speak to what the other couple's meals were like, but we ordered the cannelloni and linguine pescatore. The cannelloni was ok, but really needed salt. My wife said the noodles were tasteless, and left most of it on her plate, and just ate the seafood. Desserts were again, just ordinary, with the exception of the creme caramel, where the caramel tasted a little burnt. For the amount of money we spent here, I expected a better meal. I don't think this is a place we'll be revisiting anytime soon again, if ever.
Its always been the Top Italian Restaurant, Guido the owner is not into it any more, unfortunately reading the reviews below it seams to be the consensus, Guido has gone thru his shares of unfortunate instances...but overall has done well... he needs to get on top of his staff and out of the kitchen...more!
Dined there on a Thursday night and arrived at 7:15. Three servers. The first two were lovely and helpful but then we were saddled with the third even though the other two were there...odd! The third server was the rudest most obnoxious person I have ever met. He made it clear that the cook had been on since 8 am and needed to go home. He kept asking us if we did not like the food because we were eating so slowly. After receiving the bill at 9 pm shortly after our cappacinos arrived, he continued to make us feel completely uncomfortable. I asked what time they closed and he shrugged his shoulders. Even though it was 9:15 when we were compelled to leave, we checked on line at it said closing time is 11pm. We felt clearly bullied and it destroyed the ambiance of the nice wine and lovely food. To add to the insult of his service, he threw a pen across the table at my friend to calculate her portion of the bill when we asked to pay separately. I was unable to finish my cappacino and had to leave it there. Never going back and will never recommend this restaraunt to anyone else. Clearly a shame when the food is so good.
