Clay Oven Modern Authentic Indian

Indian buffet, the greatest buffet of all. The Clay Oven was ok but left some things to be desired. Although we were sat very quickly, we didn't get served for a good 10 minutes after. It was pretty frustrating. After this, for some reason I ordered a maharani because it sounded delicious. Unfortunately all that I got was San Pellegrino and vodka. The food itself was pretty good although selection of the buffet was pretty limited. I was impressed to see naan on the buffet though, sometimes you have to order that separately. The veggie pakoras are possibly the my favourite in town. To summarize: good food but if I didn't go in with a groupon, I would've been extremely disappointed.

The beautiful modern decor and atmosphere enhanced the excellent buffet. The beef was especially tender and succulent. The food spiced at a level that allowed enjoyment of the food taste itself without overpowering it.Service was very good, the food freshly prepared and the restaurant, very clean and inviting.

Was my first visit to the buffet since the ownership moved from father to son, I think. Walked into find the room basically full and it remained that way from noon until after1 pm. The place has a loyal following. As with too many new restaurants in Calgary the noise is too loud , not a single attempt to deaden the sound was visible. Bright, modern and crowded, but that is a sign of the times and modern architechture, but popular. The service was marvelous, water glass and coke glass always kept full with a smile. The buffet line crowded by location but saw many returning for extra helpings. I did not. The buffet starts with a dessert area and space for condiments, but none in sight. Tandoor chicken was in front of that which was labeled as butter chicken. Tandoor was well done. The butter chicken had little chicken and the sauce was the thickness of water, not much sign of cream and or butter. Other sauces faired no better, the beef in some kind of sauce was dry. Go figure. Lamb was nowhere to be found. The other dishes were not memorable as sauce suffered for lack of taste. Deep fried pakora was plentiful but like the rest lacked any sense of subtle spice. As you moved to the buffet you could see naan being prepared and it was plentiful. Before being put out some sort of butter was rapidly being added by a staff member, none made it to my portion, which ended dry and tough, nowhere near what it can be. Maybe I am being a little harsh but when there is not a single chutney in sight, I question why. So I paid $15, and left wishing for the old days, when the buffet was prepared with the same care as dinner. I have no plans to return. This was the first impression of this location and Imwill continue to enjoy the Indain culinary of other establishmentsB

I booked a reservation ahead of time because I had a voucher to use, as instructed on the terms and conditions. I was told when we got there that they would accept the voucher, however, they took a ‘dinner for two’ voucher and decided it was only covering $25.00 and anything above that was to be covered by us. I might add that these are their own terms and were very clear at the time of purchase, so I wasn’t impressed. Seeing that the cheapest dish is $15.00 not including your naan or rice, there’s a lot that wouldn’t be covered under the random $25.00 new condition. The portions weren’t very big although they’re intended for sharing. The meal was prepared according to our spice level so that was nice. The strip mall that it’s located in is new, however, the driveway does not blend into the road so you have to be careful getting into the lot. The inside was nicely decorated and very clean. Not the best butter chicken I’ve ever tried and we will not be returning based on the voucher experience alone.

We visited on a mid-week night so rather quiet. The waiting staff were knowledgeable and helpful. Tasty and meaty samosas. The veggie pakoras were good too. Its a bit pricey.
