The staff are always willing to address any issues with your shisha and strive to provide top-notch service, even during busy times. They always greet us with a smile and sometimes even a high five, especially Izz and Ahmed.
Attitude is terrible (not the waitress - she is nice) but the service from the men is sub par. No hot water for second cup of tea, never come back and ask you if you want anything else, got booted out for playing cards after 8:00 on a school night - what gives? They had no problem with a group of men playing but I a the token white couple and we get told it is against their rules. No problem, so is spending my hard earned cash in your establishment, as well as the 15-20 people I have brought there in the last year.Does Revenue Canada know about the "NO CREDIT AFTER 10" rule? Methinks they are running a credit card scam and not declaring the income after this time. I used to go here a lot but as the service and crappy attitude changed, I will find many more nice places to go. Not going to give business where we are not welcome, especially in this downturned economy,
I have been a regular for years and cannot say enough about cafe med. Great environment and atmosphere, Cafe med is always buzzing with anyone who is anyone in Calgary. The always amazing staff will take good care of you :-)
Calgary has a lot of Middle Eastern (Lebanese predominantly) restaurants and cafes. Cafe Med (as we call it for short) is my all-time favourite. I have been to Mirage, La Brava, Medina, Babylon, and so on but nothing beats this place. Before I continue, I should mention that Brava and Medina are right next to Cafe Med, both offering shisha like Cafe Med does - yet neither is close to being as busy. The place is located beautifully in the down town area. Walking from my hotel, in the heart of downtown, it took about 10 minutes. The place is Calgary's - and possibly Alberta's - first shisha cafe. I love the design, the paintings, the color, the couches, and the palm trees - the place feels very Lebanese. It reminded me of the smaller cafe's I used to go to in Beirut.Their shisha is good, about $15.00 a person with a re-load/re-fill going at about $10.95 In Edmonton, it goes for about $12.00 a shisha with a re-fill or re-load costing $5.00 So there was a bit of a price difference. However, the shisha is worth the price. I enjoyed it. The music, which is Lebanese, plays loudly and the door of the place is open during the summer-time allowing the warm breeze to flow in. Once again, reminding me of smaller cafes in Beirut. Even if you don't enjoy the shisha, the place itself with its simplicity and location would make you happy. They offer food there - myself being a fan of their Donair Pizza, I get that all the time. Their "Ya Habeeby" pizza is also very good. Their shawarma's were good, and their humous/pita bread is delicious. I don't like humous very much unless its made at home, but i do like it there. As for drinks, they don't serve alcohol, but their non-alcoholic beverages are great. Italian soda, non-alcoholic cocktails, fruit mixes, etc = GREAT. I also enjoy their wide selections of teas from the Middle East. All-in-all, I ADORE THIS PLACE.
I've been coming here for 10 year 4 different owners always the same experience. The Nader has been there 9 years and still treats everyone with respect and always gives incredible service. He keeps the essence of the legendary shisha house alive. Good place to relax in the afternoon whether your alone or with a group. Pipes have slipped a bit with cleanliness but overall still great food and good service.
