It used to be a cloth merchants place many years ago and I worked just around the corner from here in an office in the 90’s and could not believe how much it had changed. It is full of little independent shops well worth venturing inside to look around. The stone work has been cleaned and the walkways/ floor redesigned. It’s beautiful now. A lot of money has been spent doing it up. They were just preparing to hold a Eurovision Song Contest party and I believe they held a Coronation party also for King Charles on May 6th. I ventured upstairs, there are lifts as well as stairs and came across G’s cakes. I love a nice latte and cake. Already members of my coach party were inside and I was served by a really lovely lady called Helen. She said she loved her job and you could tell. Nothing was too much trouble. I had a latte which was just perfect and a large slice of Victoria sponge. It was delicious. There were so many cakes to choose from. I was told they also had another outdoors eatery downstairs. It was so nice in G’s cakes, I went back before the coach headed onto Shibden Hall.
The coffee and cake at this restaurant are absolutely delicious. They offer options for both vegans and those with gluten-free dietary restrictions. The seating area at Piece Hall is lovely. I highly recommend this spot!
Enjoyed a lovely coffee and cake in this friendly cafe today. I would highly recommend the chocolate brownie, which was excellent. We sat in the upstairs cafe which was quite small, but the bakery downstairs has a large outdoor seating area. The lady serving us was very friendly and added to a very enjoyable break.
We visited G's cakes today at the Piece Hall and had coffee, the staff were welcoming and friendly. We didn't want cake at that time but. said we would have some to take away later, the Gingerbread Latte cake was recommended and I was requested to leave a review if I tried it. We later went to The Bakery and purchased a slice of this and a slice of coffee and walnut to take away. We was really looking forward to having these but was extremely disappointed with both. The gingerbread latte cake lacked flavour and was over cooked, heavy and dry. The coffee and walnut appeared to be from separate batches with no coffee in the sponge, only in the buttercream, the top half was quite light but the bottom half very dense. At a price of £3.50 per slice I would have expected far better quality, to be honest I can produce a better cake myself so instead of it being a treat at the end of a lovely day it just cast a bad taste in mouths. Service, great, cakes poor.
We have visited G's Cakes a few of times and each time the owner and other staff members have been pleasant and very helpful. Walking in here is like walking into a cakey heaven! All the different types of cakes, cookies and brownies that we have tried tasted amazing we would definitely recommend a visit!
