As brand new residents of Caldas da Rainha, we were looking for place to celebrate my husband's birthday. We stumbled upon Baco's Wine Bar, which turned out to be a most memorable evening and one we knew would become a regular event for us! Miguel, our host, is amazing! Gracious, kind and welcoming, as well as a wealth of information about the area. All of this paled in comparison to the sumptuous meal he created especially for us. Baco's is well worth a visit, or two, or three, or twelve!
We moved from California to Portugal in Feb. 2019, just a month after Bacos Wine Bar opened. We found out about it in March and enjoyed a few lovely meals and experiences just the two of us. We i stantly fell in love with the owners Miguel and Madalena and asked if we could adopt them I to our family. When my wife 's sister and her husband came to visit, we had to take them there as they love food and wine. They had a good-sized menu and we had tried a few of the dishes but since there were now 4 of us, we decided to eat one of every other item on the menu! We were there for almost 3.5 hours and did our share of drinking and laughing and having o e of the most fun restaurant experiences ever!!! Two days later, we were ready so we went back and enjoyed the other half of the menu!! Honestly, we enjoyed this 'adventure ' as much as the first time. Miguel and Madalena are exceptional hosts and make you feel like your being there is a special occasion. Miguel has a passion and very broad knowledge of Portuguese wines. Madalena makes all of the desserts herself and the love that goes into each one is evident. We have been in Portugal for over a year now and are not the going out a lot sort. However, we make it a point to visit Baco 's Wine Bar at least once a month because we love it so. We went there to celebrate our respective birthdays and will do so again in 2020. A toast from Jay and Valerie to Miguel and Madalena and to Baco 's Wine Bar!!
This place is a gem, we wanted somewhere to just relax and have a nice glass of wine, and decided try Baco. We had prawns, picapau and salad with goats cheese all nhammy and fresh, the couple who is the owners made our visit extra special, PS try they wine and creme brulé the best ever as perfect finish. This is definitely on our top list of memorable places, sorry no pictures because we ate all before remember to take them
Cozy wine bar upstairs on a terrace courtyard. Relax on some cushioned cozy seating or sit on some bar stools surrounding a wine barrel or table service if you prefer. Great wines and delicious, unique dining options. Owners are very knowledgeable and friendly about their wine offerings. Lunch was duck confit pie with leeks and carrots with a side salad topped with pomegranates. Also a salad of hand carved ham, cheese, figs, hazelnuts, fresh greens. We will definitely go back. Just a really overall nice place.
