There's no way that doubling the size would significantly increase the cost. They also charge 5 AUD for a slice of bread, which is usually complimentary in most places—it’s almost laughable. The prices are high, but that's to be expected given the real estate costs on the beach. The ambiance and service were excellent, though. Would I go back? Probably not, as I'm only in town for a few days. However, the two people I'm with said they would definitely return because they loved the atmosphere and decor. So overall, it's worth a visit!
Dear Management and Staff of Beach Byron Bay, I want to start by praising the outstanding quality of your food and the exceptional service I received during my visit. As a chef from Los Angeles and a passionate traveler, I make it a point to dine at top-notch restaurants across Australia. When I made my reservation, I mentioned my preference for a table with a view. Therefore, I was disappointed to find myself seated in a room adjacent to one with beautiful beach views, especially since I was the first guest there at noon and dining alone. I couldn't help but wonder if this decision was influenced by my solo dining status. To make a statement about my commitment to enjoying the experience, I ordered a $300 bottle of champagne upon arrival. While I understand the financial considerations that accompany seating arrangements, it's important to remember that the true value of a guest lies beyond immediate financial transactions; it’s in fostering long-term relationships and building reputation. I'd like to recommend Danny Meyer's book, "Setting the Table," which has profoundly influenced me. In it, Meyer shares his experiences of being treated dismissively while dining alone in top European restaurants, which inspired him to prioritize inclusive hospitality in his own establishments. His philosophy is straightforward: every guest deserves equal treatment, regardless of how many they are dining with. His restaurants are among the most successful and respected in the U.S., proving the effectiveness of this approach. I genuinely hope that establishments like yours will embrace the principle of inclusive hospitality, making every diner feel valued, no matter their party size. Additionally, as I finished my meal, I noticed several vacant tables with prime views, which made it even more puzzling why I was seated in a less desirable location. Such decisions can lead guests to question the rationale behind seating arrangements, especially at a prestigious establishment like yours. For comparison, I dined at Rae’s on Wategos the previous night, where my requests were met with enthusiasm, and I was given the best seat in the house. This contrast in experiences highlights the differing expectations discerning guests may have. Best regards, [Your Name]
When we asked for an aperitif, her response was, "We’re not an Italian restaurant," even though we could see a Martini bottle behind the bar and that very aperitif listed on the cocktail menu. Alright then... When we inquired about a red wine from their wine list, her initial reaction was unfriendly, followed by a firm “no.” Only after we politely insisted and pointed out the wine on the list did she begrudgingly disappear without a word, only to return with the bottle while complaining about our choice, insisting that another option would have been better and ours was a mistake. Our chosen bottle was one of the pricier options, but her suggestion was the most expensive one. Such hard selling... Unfortunately, the food was also disappointing. The spaghetti with crab meat—supposedly a recommendation—was overcooked, lacking salt, spice, and flavor. Even the dessert was forgettable: just coconut mousse with a lot of decorative elements on top that looked much better than it tasted. To cap off our evening, we ordered coffee, hoping to salvage the night. A few minutes later, the same waitress returned and interrupted our conversation to hand out coupons for a beauty salon! What? Yes, coupons for a beauty salon. How tacky... This place is definitely a no-go.
Fabulous view. Service was excellent, but the food was terrible The muscle boullion was way too salty. The muscles release their salt water as they open. The soup base should be delicate. The main fettuccine was not even a small entree size and the steak was almost inedibly salty. Terrible.
This is a good spot for a glass of wine at lunch or dinner. The menu is pricey but the restaurant does offer some delicious entrees. The views of the beach and the ocean are gorgeous. Be sure to ask for a table close to the railing for the most unobstructed pictures. Cheers!
