Icy Bar - Burnaby

We actually went to the Richmond location and not the Burnaby one. But this place was sooo good. If you're a shaved ice fanatic, this is the place for you. You can order pre-set shaved ice combos or make your own! And the options that you get to choose from span TWO WHOLE pages! Then there's another four pages of OTHER desserts you can choose from. We tried a making your own shaved ice combo and the tapioca with taro (cold). Both were delicious. They give a little bottle of condensed milk on the side so you can add or not add all you'd like to your shaved ice. The service was fast and friendly. It wasn't large, but their tables were easily reconfigured for smaller or larger parties. Parking was a little awkward because all of the spot had reserved for XX signs everywhere, but there were signs telling you that you could park in them after certain hours! There was one sign that we could see...as we were leaving the parking lot. Overall, this was a great place for a little light dessert!

The air conditioning here was turned up really high, which would have been perfect for a really hot summer day. We split an eight topping shaved ice between two people, and the dessert itself came in a huge bowl bigger than my head. Really can't imagine anyone finishing one by themselves! You get to choose from an array of toppings; my favourite was the red bean and mochi options. They provide you with a squeeze bottle of sweetened condensed milk to pour over too.

Went for a Lemon Black tea..the girl was making the drink, shook it and then poured into cup... the measurement was so off that it filled up half the cup only... she then just filled water in the shaker ... shook it and then filled up the other half of cup... wth?! Hahaha she didn't look up and didn't realize I was watching her as she was doing it at the back end of the bar. She then brought it out to me and I just stared in disbelieve hahaha. Fail.

If you Love DURIAN, this is the place for you! With its very extensive dessert menu full of customization for various shaved ice concoctions for all, ICY BAR is the place to be for those with a sweet tooth. We ordered the Mango Icy filled with plenty of fresh mangoes, mango mochis, regular mochis, and shaved ice. Another great bonus is the bottle of condensed milk that you can use to add another depth of flavour to any of your desserts!

Icy Bar is hot, that it is very popular with a young Asian crowd is an understatement. Young people lining up for a table in the late evenings can't be wrong. Try a tasty fruity treat, with ice cream and condense milk syrup, you won't be disappointed.
