The servers tell you to reorder your selections and they should come.
Normally I go here and have such a great experience with the food service can sometimes be hit or miss. This definitely takes the cake though, been craving sushi all day and went to call in an order and was told on the phone there too busy to accept pick up orders. Well you definitely won't be busy for long if you keep refusing loyal customers when u get caught off guard. I've been in the restaurant industry for 30 years, I know first hand businesses are built on loyal regular customers and sad to say they just lost one.
We went for the all you can eat lunch ($16.88 each), we've been many times in the past but it had been a long time since we visited. We started with the Miso Soup which was only luke warm when it arrived at the table. We then went with the Seaweed Salad which was excellent. We then went with an assortment of the usual sushi options which were all at best okay, some looked like they had been dropped before arriving and overall a poor presentation. But most disappointing was the staff who although they brought all the ordered food quickly (order yourself on an iPad) they would drop and run without and conversation. I ordered a green tea at the start of the meal which came in a small cup that they not once offered to refill (normally these places just give you a tea pot so you can refill at will).Over the last five or so years we have gone here you never know what you are going to get. Back when it was Sagi Sushi the food was excellent but the service was terrible, then IMI took over and at first the service and food were excellent, but now the food was okay and the service was disappointing. Good service can often make up for mediocre food, they need to work on this.
We went out of our way to go to this restaurant on the weekend because we felt like having Japanese for lunch. It's basically an all-you-can-eat place, but we felt like having a Bento Box, so we asked for the menu. Not finding what we wanted on the (paper) menu, we opted for the all-you-can eat option. Reasonable prices, we felt, including a reduced price for seniors. However, when we go the bill, I noticed that the price was $1.00 more for each of us than what was printed on the paper menu, and asked the waitress to correct the bill. She was flustered by this request, and went to get a guy who did not introduce himself. He said, "I'm not going to argue with you, but the price is what's on the iPad menu." I pointed out that he had to charge what was printed on the "paper" menu, which he called the take-out menu, which he also said was "old." No argument, indeed. The customer is always right, I said. You pay what is on the bill, he said. Well, okay then. We paid. However, this is not a place that we will ever go to again, owing to the lousy attitude of this guy. For the sake of two dollars, he has turned off two customers forever, and we will continue to tell this story for as long as this place is in business. I'm not going to argue with you either buddy. Your attitude is terrible, and you do not deserve future business from us, or anyone else for that matter. If you were my employee, I'd fire you. Also, the food is mediocre. What is shown on the iPad menu, more than once, is a plate containing four to six pieces, but when you order the dish, it comes with only one piece. It's this restaurant's way of slowing down the amount you can eat, because although the first dishes you order come fairly quickly, the second ones take forever. Plus they do not tell you what dishes they are when delivered, leaving you to wonder when the dishes you thought you were getting were coming. The place is also difficult to get into in terms of parking, especially if you are approaching it from the north. Without doing a U-turn, you can only get to the parking lot of the adjacent strip mall, at least as far as we could see.Bottom line. There are far better places to eat in Burlington. Give this place a pass, at least until they get rid of that guy, whoever he was. All for two bucks ... but I'm not here to argue with you buddy. I paid your bill. YOu get my honest review.
My boyfriend and have come to Imi since it was Saga Sushi years ago. They've definitely gone through changes and improvements throughout this time. There were frustrations I had back when it was Saga Sushi and even when they initially became Imi but certainly nothing bad enough to keep me away.I'm not a sushi buff by any means and I typically play it very safe with what I know I like (fish wise). However, I have never been disappointed in a dish and always left happy and full. I have been to several different sushi places and this is the only one I've ever returned to. Their salmon sashimi is my #1 go to and I find myself craving it like crazy! In the past, my other favorite dishes have consisted of their snow mountain roll, salmon sushi, shrimp sushi, bacon wrapped scallops, deep fried chicken cutlet (with hoisin sauce), dragon roll and Burlington roll. Their service is quick and polite and their Chefs have really stepped up their game! Consistency in dish taste, quality and size has really improved and they've started bringing out even more new dishes.Personal Note:While it certainly doesn't effect my rating, there is one thing I'd love to see. In the time I've been going to Imi, I've gone through medical ups and downs and it's always been very difficult to have them help accommodate this. Sadly, I do understand why it's so difficult but I wish there would be improvement here. I love this restaurant so much that I'd like to continue visiting however, I've also recently started a Ketogeneic diet which restricts me from consuming rice, grains, sugars, etc. It has severely limited what I can eat there and makes it more of a difficult decision to go each time. I wish that they provided an alternative to have rolls made without rice (either simply without rice or with cucumber as an alternative). They have brought out new dishes which is amazing to see, however, they are all either breaded or covered in a high sugar sweet sauce. It would be nice to see some more options such as the chicken skewer with teriyaki sauce or even just a few more plain meats with the ability to order a side of various sauces. For someone like me this can certainly open up the dining options! I have to say that even with my dietary restrictions, I still love Imi and when I'm craving that salmon sashimi, there's nowhere I'd rather go!
