The maple pizza was out of this world—perfectly balanced, not too sweet, the right amount of speck, and the apple slices topped each slice wonderfully.
This large pizza place is conveniently located right next to the Queen City Brewery. Parking can be a bit of a challenge, but a good tip is to use the Burlington Coat Factory parking lot next door after 6 PM. The pizza was excellent. We tried the Margherita, Mickster, Hawaiian, and Spicy Broccoli varieties. The crushed tomato sauce was excellent, which was a plus since the Margherita didn't have much fresh mozzarella and very little fresh basil. However, the size of the pizza was definitely impressive!
I recently tried Pizza 44 for the first time and was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. The pizza had an indulgent flavor, the pepperoni was wonderfully spicy, and the crust was perfectly baked. I believe that the crust is the most important aspect of a good pizza, and Pizza 44 delivered a fantastic, crunchy wood-fired crust that I truly appreciated. Too often, pizzas are overloaded with toppings, resulting in a soggy, floppy mess that ruins the dish. That was not the case at Pizza 44. I also sampled some of the wings, although I found their texture lacking. The skin was a bit soggy, but the flavor was good. Overall, I really enjoyed my experience at Pizza 44 and would definitely return for more pizza.
Above average wood fired pizza with a symbiotic relationship to queen city brewing. fun atmosphere and a good beer selection. or order a pizza to go and eat back in the brewery.
The service was good. They were patient as I asked a couple of questions and the food came out quickly. One thing I noticed right away was an odd smell that was slightly off-putting, but I was hungry and maybe it was something I just couldn't place. The crust is thin and in a couple of places black from the fire, but not nearly as bland as a lot of the flatbread places, and it had a fine texture. They put a good amount of pepperoni and cheese on it, which not every place does. The cheese itself wasn't the best mozzarella, but it's a step up from big chain cheese (is Big Chain Cheese the name of my next band? Maybe. . The broccoli was not good. It was discolored and tasted strange, and I love broccoli. The red sauce wasn't anything special, but neither was it of poor quality. The pizza was a tad smaller than some of the others around town, and a bit more expensive, but the tastes were solid if not exceptional. I'd give it a 3.5 overall, though some people seem to think anything below a 5 is a failing grade. This is a 7 out of ten, not quite an 8.
