We were brought a complimentary bread and dip platter while waiting for our starter. However, the starter took a long time to arrive. By 7:40, we still hadn't received our main course. I asked the waiter to check on our main course as we needed to be at the concert soon. It arrived shortly after, but we had to rush through it and ended up leaving half of it uneaten. The service from the kitchen was extremely poor, and next time we will choose to dine at McGettian's Bar instead.
We tried the 5 course carvery at this restaurant for 23 euros and it was excellent. Our favorite part was the starters, particularly the hot prawns in batter, cold salmon, and mayo tartlets. We skipped the soup in favor of trying other delicious dishes. For the main course, we both had the roast lamb, which was cooked well-done but we would have liked it a bit pinker. The desserts were also delicious, although they are served to you in large slices instead of buffet style, which we would have preferred. Tea, coffee, and orange dilute were included as well. In conclusion, it was a lovely meal overall.
My family and I recently visited the restaurant for their Sunday carvery, accompanied by visiting relatives. It had been a few months since our last visit, but we were thrilled to find that the food was just as delicious as we remembered. The staff even remembered us, which was a nice touch. We especially enjoyed the selection of cold meats and creative salads for starters, and made sure to save room for the main course. It was a delightful meal from beginning to end, and we will definitely be returning. Normanie, Letterkenny.
Was there for the Sunday carvery. Not good. Very poor. You need to up your game folks. Silver Tassie has you beat hands down!! I will not be wasting my time and money here again until I hear better things.....
Dined in this restaurant on a recent overnight in the Clanree Hotel. First thing that we noticed was there were no prices on the menu. There was just a list of meals so we asked the waitress what the prices were. She started then to tell us there were different options as regards the number of courses we could have, and the price etc. It would have made much better sense to put all the prices and the options on the menu – at least it would give diners a chance to have their minds made up by the time their meal orders were taken. It would have saved us having to ask and then the waitress having to recite the whole lot. We opted for two courses – mains and dessert. We had mains of Fish and Chips and Baked Loin of Bacon. Both were delicious and the portions generous. Desserts were equally tasty and our two-course meal with a bottle of wine cost us under €60, which is excellent value. Unfortunately there was one very negative experience in the restaurant – as we finished our meal I noticed a lady bringing her dog out of the restaurant. She arrived back in with it a few minutes later, but wasn’t challenged by any of the staff on duty. We asked at reception what the policy about animals in the restaurant was and we were told they weren’t allowed – however it transpired that the lady with the dog was the owner of McGettigans Pub in the hotel. So does that mean that all guests can bring their dogs into the restaurant? I don’t think so and if there is a rule of no animals in the restaurant, it should apply to everyone, regardless of who they are. It is just not acceptable on health and safety grounds. Unfortunately it has made us rethink a visit to the Clanree, even though we enjoyed it. Dogs should not be in any hotel, never mind a restaurant.
