Due to the lack of fish in Argentina, basically everything is sushi salmon and the abundance of cream cheese. Kanu follows this pattern. No surprise. The beautiful surprise in the Ceviche....very good. Worth a visit if you like it. The service is attentive and professional. The sushi man was kind of a bit slow and the sushi arrives a bit warm as it took age to prepare (the restaurant was barely full). One of the varieties, call Kani Kama... was not good at all. The place is beautifully decorated like a typical New York Sushi Square. Prices with one of the several discounts they have (such as pre-book online or pay with a local credit card) we paid 21us$ per head (no wine or alcohol and not including tipping). Without the discount of $25us. Oddly, the discount was only on the food, not on the drinks not specified in the reservation.
It was a nice evening in the kanu sushi. The waiter was very cool and he made us very welcome. The sushi was very good, prices are generally ok after they make a discount, so make sure you have one because if not it can be a little expensive. I recommend this sushi bar.
Let me start by saying the waiters are very friendly and the room has a nice vibe. That is all positive I have to say about this place. The sushi is terrible! Almost every roll has cream cheese and so much you didn’t even taste the fish anymore. The fish is scanty. The rice over cooked so every piece fell apart. They have nothing with tuna. There are actually lots of things lacking on the menu of this restaurant pretending to be a sushi/Japanese restaurant. Please, send that young boy who was rolling the sushi to a course how to make it. Service was very slow. Finally we could order drinks. My husband ordered a drink but they couldn’t make it as one ingredient was lacking. He wasn’t asked if he wanted something else so he asked for it himself. It did not came not even asking for it twice. In the meantime we found out how tasteless the sushi was (except when you like cream cheese) so we decided to pay instead of ask for the third time for a drink. I guess it was too busy for the staff because people were also getting take out. But that is no excuse for bad service and bad food.
I have been a few times and the sushi is always great quality (compared to price) and I have had some of the best service I have ever had in Buenos Aires. The waiter was friendly, attentive and insisted on not charging us for the water he forgot to add to the bill.
