Guido's Bar D.O.C. - Buenos Aires

Still very good even if without prior owner, Carlos Sosto who has retired, Excellent ambience if the servers already know you, very particular place and with its idiosyncrasies but can get quite spectacular at times. You don't want to miss the orecchietti w/tartufo sauce.

Just go and do it. Do not ask questions unless you speak the local language (we didn’t). Sit down. (if there is a table available). Be pleasantly amazed. Simple. Plentiful. Uncomplicated. Friendly. Value. Vegetarian (or it was when we went). Tasty. If you want silver...service and Michelin stars-give it a swerve. It will not be to your liking.

We were on a tour in the morning. We asked our guide for a lunch recommendation and he dropped us off at Guido’s Bar. We were told what to expect. And we weren’t disappointed. No menus. Just a selection of whatever Italian food they’re made....Bread, six antipasti, big bowl of pasta and then a trio of desserts. Wine included. Great food. Amazing value for money. Don’t expect them to speak English. This isn’t a tourist place. Lots of locals here. They were so hospitable. Come here for a local’s experience.

The first surprise is the location. Typical of New York's Little Italy the canteen impresses with the aromas. And just sit and let the waiters get the service, which is not described anywhere and I think they decide when they look at you. When ordering...the wine, ask which varietal and will open bottles until one pleases you. It's really a surprise. Best: a great surprise.

We were never presented with a menu, and the entire evening was a marvelous culinary experience! Come and be surprised with the yummy selections and impeccable service. We arrived early and while having a glass of wine the waiter provided a slice of pizza to...tide us over until they officially began serving.
