I suppose you're a US citizen visiting Buenos Aires. So, you were in the Hyatt, the Alvear Palace, the Colon, the Casa Rosada, Puerto Madero, La Cabaña, seen a few tango shows, long legs, net stockings around a stunning young man in... a black suit and mustache. So, at some point, ask yourself, where do the real people eat? I am an American who lives six months outside the year with my Argentine woman. Tonight, our son, his wife and two children decided to go to our local 'parrilla' a joint that specializes in broiled meats of different kinds 'Asados'. Raul, the waiter immediately recognized my wife and son, although we hadn't been there in two years. We ordered 'matambrito' a thin sliced pig, 'morcillas', blood sausage, a 'milanesa' of veal, 'chinchulines' a broiled small intestine, 'mollejas' broiled sweetbreads, all with a wonderful mixed salad, anointed with Balsamico vinegar and a rich virgin olive oil. And a bottle of wine for us and a sprite for the children. I go into this much detail because that's the way locals eat and b, if this makes you sick, you just shouldn't even go to look at. On the other hand, if you like good grilled meat, and have a decent supply of lipitor and a curiosity about the country you have just visited, try El Patio de Mingo. It's a family house. We arrived at 9:45 and the place was full of families with children of all ages. (Our grandchildren are 4 and 7 years old. We went well after eleven and most families were still there. It has a beautiful outdoor terrace where we ate (it is summer and a beautiful interior. And oh yes, dinner for six, including tip, were $50.
