Unfortunately on a Saturday morning the other cafes we had closed so we decided to give Capriatti an attempt. Coffee was good and the big orange juices (each ARP92) also good, but it had no ambience. The staff was fine.
During a visit to Buenos Aires, my wife and I stayed at Capriatti for lunch. It is located in the theatre district. We ordered a medium-sized pizza and drinks. The cheese pizza was very good. The facility is very clean and the service is excellent – friendly and attentive. When I return to Buenos Aires, I wouldn't hesitate to come back to Capriatti for lunch or dinner.
Festive menu for lunch and dinner, some including main course and drink, some add dessert. The place is also famous for its pizza and as a sports bar, even people on the way stop at the window to follow the games. Eating is OK and not writing at home, but not bad at all. Service is attentive, it is a safe experience.
While we ate in Buenos Aires twice in Capriatti, an Italian restaurant on Corrientes Avenida. The food was excellent. The meal began with a basket of three different breads – baguette, onion focaccia and wheat rolls. Ask for olive oil and balsamico vinegar for bread. We choose to make the house pastas. On one occasion we had Ravioli with Ricotta and a four cheese sauce and spaghetti with four cheese sauce. In another visit we have cannoli with vegetables (in fact it was only spinach and onions and while the amount of spinach was almost overwhelming they still tasted). The only part of the meal we do not enjoy was the grated cheese – it came in individual, plastic packs and was not fresh or tasty. Sometimes the service was very slow and we had to ask for items like ice and pepper several times. At one of the meals we had ordered French fries (papapas fritas), but they never came – at least we were not charged for them. There is a service fee on the meal, but this is not the tip as the waiting staff will remind you that the tip is not included on the bill.
This is one of the very few places around Novotel/IBIS which has a English menu (you have to ask for it) and waiters who can understand English. We had a pizza and empanada and though we explicitly asked for little cheese the pizza in typical Argentinian style had so much cheese that we had throw away a plateful of cheese. The crust was thin. Though not good the pizza was better than at the nearby Guerrin. They have a A15 per person service charge for which we got pita bread slices with onion and cheese which was actually better than the pizza. The service was ok, they accepted cash Dollars for 12 pesos.
